I'm trying to figure out what kind of sofa styles I like by looking at lots of different pictures. Does anyone know what style the one that appears in "Stephanie Moffitt's new Winter textiles for Mokum" is?
Allison--
The fabrics are at Holly Hunt, who also sells furniture, so you may try there.
I'd say George Smith or Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams would be additional resources for a sofa of that style.
p(too) -
Thanks, what I'm actually interested in is learning some names for styles (I assume some standard exists?). I'm not sure that any of the stores you mention are available to me as I live in Montreal.
Where are you seeing the image? I looked on Mokum's website and did not find it.
It was on AT:New York with the subtitle I listed.
So I'm probably the last person to know this...but just in case...the Maharam folks let me into their Phoenix showroom http://maharam.com/maharam.html to order textiles to recover some Warren McArthur chairs I found here on AT.
Don't know what their to-the-public policy is. But, their things are great colors, in-stock and in understandably priced. I got a groovy aluminum color that is like liquid metal for the chairs.
Showrooms nationwide.
Here's the link, so you don't have to go searching for it (it used to be the article right next to the OT):

I think maybe one could call that a Queen Anne style sofa with a tufted back.
Also, does anyone know the name of the paint color used in the cover photo of the AT book?
Anyone know if there's a way to convert a fluorescent light fixture into incandescent?
Oh, I just noticed the turned feet. So not so Queen Anne in terms of having turned feet instead of the usual curvy feet. You might look on Brocade Home's website for something similar.
Jessi,
The only way to convert a fluorescent fixture into incandescent is to rip it out and put a new fixture in. Fluorescents work in a fundamentally different way.
That said, you can get new bulbs that throw closer to incandescent color temperatures.
scott, u're so not the last person to know...
liquid metal, yes please.....
thnx!
anybody know where this large wood bowl on the floor comes from or something similar?
I don't if there are really any hard standards for sofa names except for the obvious styles (Louis, CHippendale, famous designers - Eames etc.) I have seen similar sofas referred to as Chesterfield sofas. It is a variation of a classic English manor sofa. Check out http://www.exmoorantiques.co.uk/Chesterfield%20Sofas.htm
I would try going into Brunschwig & Fils (I am pretty sure they would be in Montreal - to the trade) and ask to look at their furniture styles they have some very English traditional sofas - then remember the name and run out the door to a less expensive source ;-)
Based on this site:
http://www.bbbargoons.com/products/furniture/sofas/
I would say it is a capri sofa with a tufted back and turned feet.
But names, though standard for some pieces aren't so for others, so I have no idea if that will get you very far!
Get out your yellow pages and start calling the better furniture stores in Montreal, Allison! Good luck.
oh and it isn't technically a "chesterfield" which is distinct in that it has the back and arms at the same height (tufting or no).
Alana in Canada -- I never knew that about chesterfields. When I was growing up, that was just the generic term we used, interchangeable with couch or sofa. Learn something new every day.
Does anyone own the Stefan Patte CD holder (click my name for link to photo)? Also, do you know where I can find the CD holder? DWR only stocks the DVD holder now... Sadly.
Holly
Speaking of sofas, I'm on the verge of getting Bottoni which is discontinued and on sale at DWR and I was wondering if there is anything out there comparable and perhaps even less expensive.
Thanks!
Ann, there are large wooden bowls similar to the one linked to your name at ABC Carpet and Home. I forget which floor.
