Has anybody had in person experience with both the Nurseryworks "Storytime" and "Sleepytime" rocking chairs? (I know from the 9 Month Cure that our host has the "Sleepytime.)

In theory, I prefer the lower back and slightly more generous proportions of the Storytime, but worry that for actual baby nursing, the Sleepytime might be better.

Anybody sat in both? Anybody know a store that carries both?

Thanks in advance!

If I wanted to do any remodeling on my apartment, or upgrade my appliances in my kitchen, is there any negotiating I can do with my landlord about reducing my rent?

What, if anything, is "standard" when it comes to a tenant doing the remodeling themselves? Any tips on having this discussion?? Thanks!

I'm not close enough to an IKEA to just run in and check. Can you put doors on the Billy *corner* bookcases?

Has anyone tried using the IKEA long glass door for their cabinets as track mounted doors for a room? i am so tempted to try this as they aren't much and i could use 3 to span a new doorway to a bathroom to make it wheelchair accessible. there seems to be a variety of hardware available online for all weights of doors, so maybe.....hmmm.

lisa in austin, I think someone did this in one of the entries in the last Smallest, Coolest Apartment. Anyone know which it was or if I'm remembering this correctly?

I just received this from a friend. PLEASE READ!!

You should be alert during the next days: Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation" regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch
which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend, do not open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft a s the most destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept .

Sorry to bother, then.

Here are some great sites to check on potential hoaxes - I check many pass-along emails here and find out they are hoaxes (I often find the info. after checking just one site):

snopes.com
urbanlegends.about.com
purportal.com
vmyths.com
hoaxbusters.ciac.org
cert.org/other_sources/viruses.html
www.truthorfiction.com

(I haven't used everyone of these sites lately, so I hope they're all current. The first couple are for sure--they're my main go-to sites.)

I've also read that email addresses in pass-along emails are harvested by spammers - I'm not sure how this happens, perhaps someone can enlighten - so I ask high volume pass-along forwarders (usually family members, for some reason) not to pass these along to me.

P.S. perhaps these hoax emails are initiated by spammers for the purpose of collecting email addresses.

I also like museumofhoaxes.com for checking out any scary emails like that.

I was in West Elm today and they were putting out there spring line. It's fucking gorgeous. I bought a butterfly shaped ceramic tray.

"I'm not close enough to an IKEA to just run in and check. Can you put doors on the Billy *corner* bookcases?"

Trilobyte,

um, sorry, no... sort of. The hardware doesn't let you. If you have a new corner cabinet (actually just the 15" bookcase set in the new billy corner brackets), you can put a 15" door on the bookcase so long as the bookcase next to it doesn't have a door. If you bought the corner more than 6 months to a year ago, the openning is something like 24", i think. The doors don't come in that dimension.

hope this was helpful.

Since the Sputnik chandelier appeared in the gift bag last week, I can't stop thinking about it! I had been considering getting one way before it was posted, but now I am getting a little obsessed.

Do any of you know how I can find an inexpensive one (or something similar), other than ebay?

SS:
When I was pregnant, everyone had me convinced that to nurse comfortably, I'd need to buy a glider and a boppy. Turns out I was most comfortable sitting on our sofa and using an ordinary bed pillow. Go figure.

I later found out a lot of my friends' rocking chairs and gliders went unused after the first month, too. ;-)

Thank you Alisa! That was very helpful, I don't yet have a Billy corner bookcase, but am contemplating buying one for a particular corner.

Thanks, Mama Chilanga! That's sorta scary, but makes sense. We still really like the idea of a rocker, though, and could use something comfy in the livingroom. But it is good to know that there's not One. Right. Nursing. Answer.

Dear SS -

I have to second Mama Chilanga's point about not nursing in a rocker (2 babes later, I still go for the sofa and flannel-cased bed pillow every time). However, we got a lot of use out of the rocker/glider. Even now, the 3 yr old loves to be rocked when she is sick or miserable, and the same with the babe. Having tried many, albeit not these 2 rockers specifically, I found the higher-bavked rockers more comfortable. (we are now splurging on a Moderno rocker, which has the perfect dimensions and angles for me; because there is no retailer in Canada, we are dealing directly with the manufacturer in Finland, which makes it a bit cheaper).

SS:

I never used a rocker to breastfeed either. I found them all uncomfortable and the arms always seemed to get in the way. I breastfed all over the place, but often on the couch or my bed. You feel like you're breastfeeding so much of the day that you don't neccessarily want to be relegated to one spot in the rocker. I have to admit I found the boppy invaluable. I also used pillows if I was at someone else's place but the boppy was a lot quicker and easier for me to use.
