Hello ATers... I'm desperate for lamps in my apartment, and I love these.

The shape, the chunkiness, the color. Obviously, at $4,200 for the pair, they're out of my price range. Any savvy shoppers out there know of something similar and reasonably priced? Or good sources to start looking? Thanks.

ESP, What about getting some very plain, cheap lamps and wrapping the bases in heavy white cotton rope?

ESP-
check out Anthropologie

..Clean, interesting designs that are in a similar galaxy if not in the same ballpark. I've been lusting after the coral one for a long time, and I think I'm finally over it, but I still like to look at it once in a while! ;-)

thanks for the suggestions! Sara- I love anthropologie, too... am just wondering if coral is a trend I'm going to be sick of in a few months. Like antlers. Or owls. But anthropologie has gotten better and better- will keep my eye on it.

Does anyone have any ideas one where I can locate some nice looking recycling bins? What do you use in your apartment?

Also, thanks for everyone who suggested ideas for my bay window. I'm considering options but I'll probably go with the hospital track (The only thing holding me back, the shipping costs are outrageous... did anyone else see that?)

anthea - what about the container store? for recycling bins, etc. Or even Ikea. I'm in Canada, and we got our bin at a store called Solutions, which is our version of the container store.

yeah, I think, as a trend, coral has seen its day. But I hate to think of housewears like clothing trends. If you like it and the price is good...

I found an awesome lamp from Anth. that was on clearance, I got it for just under $30, a pale orange glass teardrop-ish shape that I love. Sometimes you just end up in the right place at the right time. I love uncovering a great find for my place - I guess I love the 'thrill of the hunt'.

Given all that, if the coral lamp dropped to $30, I'd be first in line!

happy hunting!

Does anyone know where to get past season chairs from CB2? I saw a chair (far left) that I loved from JJ Fox Interior design (http://jjfoxinteriordesign.com/), but was told it was from a few years ago. Or any similar chair would be cool too.

Thanks in advance.

ESP, love those lamps, not the price. the other thing i don't love about them is (and this is so bougie of me, but whatever) that dusting them will be a beyatch.
i think of this now whenever i buy something: do i love it enough not to be angry every time i have to clean it.
ps i have seen nothing like these lamps in my discount store scouring. good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm scheduling a trip to Chicago for next month and I'll stop at both the container store and IKEA.

In other news, some of you helped with advice on a painting project I did a couple of months ago. I promised to post pictures when I was able. Well I FINALLY got a digital camera, and I have pictures. Unfortunately, I'm still not a very good photographer, so I don't think these do the room justice. With that caveat...click my signature

pc-dust is the first thing I thought of too.

Question: I've just adopted a cat. How does one keep pets out of freshly painted things, like furniture and walls?

Lock them in the other room until the paint dries.

You can also put a lot of tape lines on the floor with the sticky side up. This is a conditional thing when you don't want to go somewhere. It genrally takes time, weeks, for them to decided that they don't like being tangled in tape and perhaps they'll stay away from... there (where you have taped off).

Yes, lock them in the bathroom. That's generally what it takes.

If you feel guilty, and you kitty protests a lot, bring a book, and go sit with him or her for a while to keep them company.

cheers,
Chris

On the recycling note...I like these from DWR.

A set of four is only $22.

thanks Chris. I have some touch up in the bathroom, so I can just shut that door and move out the catbox. But, the bigger thing is some furniture I want to paint, so I guess I'll have to lock her up or there will be painted paw prints everywhere.

FYI-

I've now moved the site to the:
http://www.GigantiCo.com

...domain. For now it will still forward to the SquareSpace holding page, but eventually it will actually migrate to the GigantiCo domain, so especially if you plan to bookmark it, use the new URL.

And thank you to everyone who has visited!
