In response to all this posting about frames....can any fellow Washingtonians recommend a good, reasonably priced framer in the metro area?? I would really appreciate any help! THANKS!

DC Sarah, I've had good luck with Art Galaxy in Germantown. It's at the corner of 118 and Middlebrook Road, next to Mi Rancho restaurant. If you tell the owner what your budget is, he'll show you what's available in that range.

To those who've been to CB2 (Hi Chicago),

I'm interested in CB2's Lubi daybed? Has anyone sat on it--or better yet, stretched out on it while it's unfolded into a bed? And what's the upholstery like? Thanks!

DC Sarah-
FRAMERS WORKROOM
4431 WISCONSIN AVE NW
WASHINGTON, DC 20016-2141
202-363-1970

Good prices, nice people. Options for doing some parts yourself if you choose to, making it cheaper.

DC Sarah,
Frame of Mine in Cap Hill has good prices and often has sales. Google them, online they often have "first time customer" discounts.

Here in DC I saw a sign somewhere around Metro Center recently that a West Elm store is opening there soon. I didn't find anything about it on the West Elm site, but I just found this on the former mayor's site:

At 37,000 square feet, the Washington, DC store will be the largest store in the chain and its flagship location on the East Coast. It will
take up the entire ground level and second floor of the G Street side of the historic downtown Woodies building. The build-out of the new store will respect all of the historic elements of the Woodies interior and exterior. When the new store opens in January, we anticipate sales of $500 per square foot...

Someone local to me is selling Knoll's Pollock Executive Chair (http://www.knoll.com/products/product.jsp?prod_id=410) at what seems to be an ok price... Or at least it's lower than the ebay average.

Does anyone else own one of these, or has anyone sat in one? Are they comfortable? How do they hold up to frequent use?

Thanks!

Hi All,

I'm looking for a creative headboard for my fullsize bed. I don't actually need to attach it to the bed-frame because the head is up against the wall. So I figure I can just stand it up between the wall and mattress with no problem. Unfortunately I can't glue/staple/nail anything to that wall (long story) so Trading Spaces won't work.

But what if I painted a square of color on the wall instead?

has anybody seen this? it's as fun to browse as Flickr.

Ange - what do you think of this: http://www.dominomag.com/galleries/paint/slideshow_paintpalette?slide=4#slide
no staples or nails required.

Mat: Re the Pollock chair.

I find the chair very comfortable. I don't think it would get to be an office classic if it weren't. I have a spare used one in near mint condition. The fabric is a wool in a deepish purple, which is really quite neutral but fun. I'm in the ny metro area, let me know if you are interested.

angelune: thanks muchly for the link. I think I'll freestyle a painting right on the wall above the bed. I'm not sure of what yet though but I figure some free-form stuff would look great. I also want to see if I can get a small overhead lamp in there too...maybe a plastic crappy one and some double-sided tape :p

Does anyone know where I can find different options for a drop leaf table that seats 2-4 people other than Ikea? Thanks!!

Mat,

We had Pollock chairs in our office before a remodel, and they are extremely uncomfortable. They look good, to be sure, but it's generally impossible to sit up straight in one, it offers no lumbar support, and leather versions make you slip down all the time. That said, I'm still mad I wasn't able to take any home with me (or the Brno chairs that we also had!).

Ironfish,

Thanks! If I was in ny, I'd hit you up, but I'm in Seattle and trying to get one here :).

Shawn,
Your reluctance has convinced me that I must put this chair to the "butt test". Especially since it's leather!
