How sad - the big 400 thread is all empty due to the registration problems! I have no decor questions today (for a change) but just thought I'd get the party started. . .

Help hanging pictures!!!

Does anyone know where I could buy a picture hanging wall-track system like the one at this link? Sometimes referred to as gallery track? I've found distributors in Australia, UK and Asia but none in the US. Any alternatives? Thanks. (I live/need delivery in NY)

anyone know of a particular town that's around 1-hour away from NYC that's great for antiquing? i want serious small town, teensy antique shop, and i'm interested more in random STUFF than i am in fancy highboys! i'm looking for something charming as opposed to utilitarian.

one town i found online was Millbrook. old, charming, and it's got a few antique stores..... any suggestions? anyone been?

(i'm not really interested in buying stuff, just perusing for a few hours as a sort of day trip outta town...)

kdkaboom, take a look at Cold Spring NY in Putnam County. You can take the train up there and walk to all the shops and restaurants.

What registration problems? :) It's just such a beautiful day here in NYC everyone should get outdoors and away from their computers!

My Martha Stewart Homekeeping Handbook came in today's mail! Goodness gracious, this thing is enormous--seriously like a textbook for keeping a home clean, organized and repaired. I've only paged through it but can't wait to give it a closer look.

kdkaboom: Cold Spring, NY - look it up on a map. It's a nice ride and they have tons of shops and some nice restaurants and its right on the Hudson River so there's the view and plenty going on for antiquing. I've been in an out of there for years.

Further up, Saugerties - although I think the market they have there doesn't open until May, but they also have stores.

Try Cold Spring first.

Good luck.

About four years ago, I was with a friend who was getting a haircut on Sullivan Street. Anyhow, I was wandering around and found a store that sold only things made of cotton, like jeans and cotton wrap dresses, and these blankets that were like moving blankets only softer. Does anyone know what this store is without me having to go up there and wander around. It wasn't on Sullivan, just around there somewhere.

Milford, PA.

It's about a hour and half away, whether you drive or take a bus or train (to Port Jervis).

kdkaboom - Believe it or not ... Point Pleasant, NJ has lots of good antique shops (not polished, expensive antiques) and I have found many fun things there. Also, down the road another ten minutes in Bay Head is a great shop called The Globetrotter owned by a guy who goes on buying trips all winter & opens around now selling new & old stuff from all over Asia and Europe. There is NJ Transit service right into downtown Point Pleasant if you are looking for somewhere accessible via mass transit. Good Luck!

Hello All-
I am looking for a extra long bed skirt for my high bed--does anyone have any suggestions on websites or stores in the NYC area that might carry 21 IN bed skirts?

I got one from Bed Bath and Beyond, but it was a shiny sateen cotton, which is not something that went well with my white, angular, padded canvas headboard.

Thanks--I am new to this site--It is great!

Hey all, I am looking for towel bars etc. for the new bathroom, the resources I have found so far are limited - in my town Lowe's and Home Depot are both too fake antique-y style for what I want and what I am seeing on here so far is WAY out of my price range (sadly, Lowe's and HD are more like my range). Can anyone suggest someplace where I can get clean modern towel bars and hooks for a reasonable price? At this point I might have to go with Umbra just because they are the least unlike what I want, but I am looking for clean and plain and modern looking and the best I can find there that will work is a bit Jetson's style modern looking. Can anyone give me tips? I love that Rejuvenation Hardware stuff but it is just a little too old-timey looking for this room. Thanks!

Anne in Reno, try ordering online? places like faucet.com and homeclick.com - i've heard 'ok' things about em...but ordering online is always a gamble, eh?

during our bathroom reno, we considered Danze's "Parma" line for its price and looks, but ended up going elsewhere. however, the line IS goodlooking and inexpensive:

kdkaboom -
I haven't been there in years, but New Hope, PA right on the old Delaware canal was always one of my favorites.

kdkaboom,

Try looking at Hudson, NY, too - lots of (expensive) antique stores, unusual woven fabrics, and so forth. I know a guy who had a store in SoHo moved up there, and he seems much happier - so business is not bad up there.

Also, since you're driving - if you're interested in historic mansions, there are lots all around the area. Beautiful views of the Hudson River from most of them....

I'm so anti-Hudson at the moment. The stores are WAY over the top expensive. Verging on mega-obnoxious.

Cold Spring is an adorable town, but the shops are very pricey, imo. That said, it's nice for window shopping and the hiking up nearby Breakneck Ridge is gorgeous.

thanks for all this info on the towns...i'm not looking for pricey at all, actually i'm looking for dirt cheap random weird crap. my penchant is for bones (antlers, skulls) and old skeleton keys and antique tools. you know...weird stuff!

if anyone's been to lake george, the antique shop/junk shop/thrift shop in bolton landing is what i base all other shops on....it is so excellent! i'd drive up there, but....no. too far :)

Emmojo--
It's hard to find long ones that aren't too frilly. We only needed an 18 inch drop and got just ours from The Company Store, but linens4less had 22-inch ones that were tailored-looking. I've never ordered from them though.

clicky, or just search for "21 inch bed skirt"

kdkaboom, the place for you is the Mystery Spot in Phoenicia! "Rustic to mod and everything in between." All kinds of oddities. http://lauralevine.com/mystery-spot/index.php

neato store, ingrid! definitely up my alley :)

the best oddities store i know of is Obscura, on E10th and Ave A. it's so funderful!

so i'm looking now at Cold Spring for its cuteness...is there any other towns right in that vicinity that i could hop to? i'd like to have the option of hitting up another town if one is too boring ;)

thanks!
