Hey all- I'm thinking about doing chalkboard paint on one of our kitchen walls, but since I live in a rental and need to repaint white when I move out, I'm wondering how difficult it is to cover-up. Anyone have any experience with this? Also, I know there was a thread about chalkboard painting, but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks!

Hi everyone,

Any idea where I could get a much less expensive version of the chair posted the other day?

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/seating-sofas-armchairs/high-back-aero-lounge-chair-020490

I LOVE it but haven't been able to find anything quite that shape in my price range (under 1,000, is that impossible?).

Thank you!

Anyone out there have a metal antler from West Elm they are willing to part with?

I coveted them the past season, but alas, waited too late and now they are gone....

aesargent--
If I were you, I'd cover the walls with panels of not-so-thick MDF, and apply the chalkboard paint to the panels.

aesargent--

p2's idea is about what I'd say, but intead of MDF, you could just about do Masonite, instead. It tends to come in either 4'x4' or 4'x8' sheets, and you can have it cut to whatever size you want, generally for like an extra dollar or so.

That table top dishwasher from yesterday had me thinking about mini appliances. Where can I find a skinny refrigerator for my tiny, tiny studio? Like 17 inches or less wide? And if that's not picky enough...under $400? It certainly does NOT need to be big, just no smaller than 3 cubic feet. Thanks!

Just read on Curbed that Chumley's (which is across the street from the G-R's) has collapsed... yikes! Sounds like the FDNY is tearing the whole building down. Hope everyone on that block is okay...

With Maxwell's permission I am posting this on Apartment Therapy because I would like your help. Will you please sponsor me for the AIDS Walk? The web link below is also listed on my AT Community profile page.

I am writing this to let you know that I am participating in the AIDS Walk New York on May 20th again this year with my office team from DC Comics. I've been walking in memory of the friends I've lost, Richard, Frank, Tom, Dennis, Gabe, Neal and more for nearly the last 25 years. Each year I hope will be the last because a vaccine or a cure has been found. Even though there has been a lot of publicity about drug treatments which are prolonging some people's lives, they don't work for everyone and there is still no cure in sight. Moreover, young people are still getting infected at alarmingly high rates.

GMHC and about 40 other AIDS organizations in the area get the money from the AIDS Walk. It's clear that we need more services and more prevention programs than ever before.

Just CLICK on the website address below to enter my personalized web page at the official AIDS Walk website and you can CHARGE YOUR DONATION! Thank you, in advance, for supporting this important cause and for showing that you join me in wanting to end this epidemic.

A few facts you may want to know:
~AIDS Walk New York is the world's largest AIDS fundraising event.

~AIDS Walk New York stands out as a model of community action and cost-efficient fundraising. The priority has always been to have the money raised go directly to vital services to help people living with HIV or AIDS.

~AIDS Walk New York benefits GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis), the nation's oldest and most comprehensive AIDS Service organization. The organization's staff of 189 and 7,000 dedicated volunteers provide services to more than 15,000 men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS and their families.

~A portion of the net proceeds from the AIDS Walk also goes to dozens of other AIDS organizations within the tri-state area.

P(too),

Have you considered the metal antler from Roost? I've seen them in person and they are quite nice. Velocity sells them:

I just bought a place and love it BUT the only issue that i have is that it is in the second floor and there is a fireescape right outside one of the living room windows. Plus fire code states that the ladder has to be reacheable from the ground.

Im a bit concerned about security especially when my husband goes away on his business trips. I was considering a few options: a (heinous looking) security gate, laminated glass, and shutters.

Any feedback in terms of deterring breakins?

Bluestar, try searching eBay for Paul McCobb (there's none on there right now, but keep checking back). He designed a chair like that, I believe, and you can find an original on there for under $1000 for sure. Good luck!

I can't lie: I'm a little obsessed with flokati rugs. I'm looking to purchase one now, but here are my questions:

1) Are they just a total pain to maintain? (e.g. constant vacuuming? And if so, how constant?)

2) Is there a marked difference in terms of quality between cheap and expensive flokati rugs?

Thanks!

Anokha,

this thread talks a bit about maintenance; I think there is at least one other one on AT concerning the same thing...

P2- If I stumble upon some metal antlers, you'll be the first to know about it! You wouldn't believe some of the stuff Google comes up with when searching for "metal antler"...deer antler chandeliers anyone? Isn't it about time to bring back Wild west saloon-chic?

Thanks so much, Lynn! I remembered reading something about the rugs on AT earlier, but as hard as I searched, I couldn't find it :(

For DeminDemon-- I live in New Jersey and the Sears in the Deptford Mall offers small apartment size appliances. A Salesperson indicated that they fit nicely in the small apartment units in south Philly area. I forget the dimensions of the fridges and he indicated that they had other items. This was last year some time though...
