Does anyone know when the May issue of Dwell should hit the stands? It wasn't at B & N last week but I thought I'd try again today.

Hey, AT:

The links for the four entries highlighted in today's "hot posts" all point to the wrong entries - two point to #15 and #18. Seems this should be fixed, especially if those "hot posts" were emailed to people with those wrong links....

Ah! I see the links to hot posts are now all fixed. That was fast!

Hi there, does anyone know what kind of paint to use for an old fibreglass chair? I only want to paint the back side of it white, and keep the seat side it's original aqua blue. Can I use just glossy enamel paint that labeled for metal and woodwork use?

Thanks in advance

summerinbrooklyn, Maybe try the new Krylon paint called "Fusion" that supposedly bonds to plastic. I know fiberglass isn't plastic, but if it has some bonding property to it, maybe it would work better than regular spraypaint.

Does anyone know if the Ikea PAX wardrobes have levelers on the feet (do they even have feet?)? I am thinking about getting three in a row for my bedroom, but the floor in there is pretty uneven in one corner. I haven't gotten to check them out in person yet.

I was worried that this would be the year when the Smallest, Coolest contest would be a dud, but it seems like a lot of the best entries all came in towards the end. I can't wait to see more shots when we get to the finalists.

I am loving all of the studios in this year's contest. I live in a studio in a flyover state where everyone else lives in McMansions. It's nice to know I am not the only person living in one and it is great to see how others work around it.

Smallfrog - We have a Bonde TV cabinet and it doesn't have levelers but we used some furniture pads to make it more level... I don't think that PAX does either, maybe check on ikeafans.com

Oops, sorry about that. I was trying to say

Lydia painted her ceiling and left her walls white:
http://sanfrancisco.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/042007/small-cool-2007-entries/15-lydias-subtly-divided-studio-021480#comments

I think it looks dreamy and I'm trying to decide whether I can/should do the same with my place. Coupla questions to bounce off y'all:
1. Does it work in Lydia's place because she has moulding? (I don't.)
2. There is a big ugly water stain on my living room ceiling. Will painting the ceiling a color truly cover that up, or actually make it worse when it eventually seeps through the color and potentially looks even more obvious than it would with a white ceiling?
3. I have an open floor plan, nothing dividing kitchen and living room. What if the living room had colored ceiling and white walls, and the kitchen had white ceiling and colored walls? Cool or wierd?

mjoe--

I have ALWAYS love painted ceilings, even if a much paler version than the one you reference.

As long as the ceiling-to-wall lines are fairly straight, you should be okay without moldings.

Hmm, where to stop a painted ceiling in an open plan? Not sure that stopping it will work, but hard to say. Perhaps consider a big "painted block" centered over you living area, about a foot in from closest walls.

You'd need a primer like Kilz before painting to hide the water spot.

I'm going to tap into the collective knowledge of this website...awhile ago I saw a picture of someone's dining room on this site and I'm trying to find out how to recreate a picture in that room. In the photo I remember there was a pictures that were really one picture printed over multiple 'canvas tiles' and reassembled on the wall. In other words instead of printing the photo on one large canvas the photo was broken into 'tiles' (ie: 9 'tiles' where arranged in a 3x3 and together they represented the original picture).

If this sounds familiar to anyone I would love to learn the website or service that was used to produce this sort of display.

Thanks!!

On Friday or Thursday I saw on the site a link for a great looking cell phone charging station - I went back to find the link and went through each thing one by one but for some reason can't find it, tried searching as well and can't find it - any tips for finding that link so I can untangle my wires fashionably?

Painted ceiling? Very cool, with the right colors.

It's really, really easy to paint yourself the illusion of moldings, if you care to. Use painter's tape to define a line inside the edge of your ceiling and a line high on your wall -- your goal is to paint right over any crookedness in the wall-to-ceiling join. With 9' ceilings, I'd go about 3" onto the ceiling and 2" down the wall, but there are lots of right ways to do this. You can define extra shapes at the corners if you like. Then paint the border you've taped in an accent color. A darker or grayer version of the ceiling or wall color has worked for me. Rip off the tape when the paint is dry, and voila! A tailored border to package your room neatly, without the fuss of putting up molding.
