Hi all--
So I've got a bathroom remodel coming up and I'm pretty sure I'm going to use a newish material called 'jellybean' glass made from recycled bottles.
Here's a link to the glass: http://www.fireclaytile.com/whatsnewjbr.html
It's a terrible picture. I'll be using it in a clearish/greeninsh hue. I was pictured in the Domino green issue, if that helps anyone.
So the question is: What material do I use on the floor?

Um, it. It was pictured in the green issue. I try to live green, but I didn't make the cut.

How about white or green terrazzo tile. This one uses recycled materials:

have no idea what it costs, but it is beautiful....

Was attending Sherwin Williams architect/building contractor show a day ago, and have talked, among other exhibitors, to a guy from PeelAway. Here's his tip: when you try to strip 20 layers of paint from an intricate molding, use woodcrafting tools marked "for soft woods". The hooks, small spatulas/etc are made in a way so as not to harm wood while cleaning up small nooks and crannies. Otherwise, follow their recommended procedure.

question: does anyone know first-hand if the Nelson Swag Leg Armchair swivels?

Tatyana,
I just bought a shaped scraper for that very purpose. Does he mean not to use a scraper and to use a delicate carving implement instead? I also wonder whether steel wool and a metal brush would help.

He was showing me the pictures of the historic landmark project they did in a 180 yo house, with excellent work on ceiling plaster medallions and ornately carved fireplace surround.
The historic preservation people, as he said, objected at first to his use of the woodcraft tools, as they were afraid he'll scrape the wood itself, and only after comparative demonstration with the woodcraft kit and regular issue scrapers they agreed the former is less harmful to the wood.
I guess if similar preservation concern is not an issue, you can use the tools you listed...he also said the toolkit had numerous shapes the regular scrapers don't and that it was altogether less expensive.
I just realized I posted this in the wrong thread - I meant to direct it to the "Tips" . Apologies!

Got stuck at home this morning waiting for my cabinet installers and Martha Stewart was on TV.
She made these really cool plant pots/boxes out of portland, perlite and peat moss (wow, three P's, easy to remember). She just mixed it together into a mud with water and packed it into plastic boxes, built up the walls and created a nice trough. After about three days of curing the mold is slipped off and the planter is brushed with a wire brush to give it a weathered appearance.
They look really cool and can take on whatever kind of look you are trying to go for depending on the shape of the mold. They are meant to look similar to ancient Japanese type of plant vessel (don't remember the name).

Just a random vent...
I am so sick of...
1. Crappy furniture posts on Craigslist. Does the world really need 1000 posts on the same crappy platform bed? Must the post be in ALL CAPS? Is that really necessary?
2. I'm sick of listing my used furniture on Craigslist only to be inundated with Nigeria-scam emails. The funny part? Now they are trying to negotiate the price to make it seem like they are really interested. Oy.
Sorry...just venting...

I sent in a "good question" on Monday and it hasn't been posted yet. Do they sometimes take a while to appear?
I need some advice on my curtain length, and I don't have a flickr account :(

Can you buy and install a Murphy bed in a rental? Or do you have to drill holes for support?
Also: Anyone remember which smallest/coolest entries or tour photos featured beds where the headboard served as the room divider?

cat: flickr is an easy account to make, and an easy account to have. it might be worth it for free advice! :)

olya, I know flickr is supposed to be easy to use but how come I can't access my photos from outside of my account? Part of the reason why I set it up is so I can post pictures of my projects for AT but when I use my web address it says I have to sign in to see the photos. I've also tagged them with apartmenttherapychicago and I cannot find them when I am signed in. I thought I could get better help from regular users of flickr rather than trying to go through the flickr help process.

Maybe you accidentally marked your photos as private?
