I'm looking for a wooden bar (with stools) to put in my kitchen in place of a traditional table. I've found one or two on Craigslist, but they aren't too interesting. Though, of course I'm also not willing to spend a lot. Any ideas?

Leslie,
You're not new to AT--why did you get a welcome?

I've been welcomed a few times since 2004. I don't mind.

There's a fairly large DC contingent. I'm on Logan Circle.

We're trying to come up with different ways of giving our preschooler a sense of her own place, even though we share a bedroom in our tiny apartment.

One idea: To convert out closet into a sleeping nook for her.
(Though this would necessitate buying 1-2 large wardrobes for our clothes.)

Another: Flipping our bed so the headboard creates a slight divider, then putting her bed up against it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15376711@N00/329348536/

Any thoughts?

Pics of closets converted into kids' rooms (or sleeping nooks in general)?

Wardrobe recommendations?

I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of putting a kid in a closet, but perhaps I'm being a bit too politically correct.

That said, look into ship bunks and bed/closets in traditional Dutch and Scandinavian Design. Some are quite festive.

I might also look into changing levels: making one bed much higher than the other and/or using the area under the raised platform to give the other bed privacy or for additional storage -- wardrobe or otherwise.

San Francisco closets are different from NY closets. (Let p(too) get hold that statement, and chaos will ensue.)

Seriously, in a 1920s building like Mama Chilanga's, it's not uncommon for the bedroom closet to have a window and be quite sizable and comfortable. People routinely use them as extra rooms.

Maxwell, et al:

Please can we do another cure that starts June 1st? I have been insanely busy in my life the last 4 months, and my house shows it. Piles of papers on the dining room table from a conference in March, Piles of laundry unfolded from *last* weekend's laundry marathon, piles of cds and paper in the spare room, and my studio is completely un-usable. I have definite goals about what needs to be accomplished, but I know I can't do it without the 'team effort' and cheerleading that happens here. Please say yes!!

I was home today from work, ostensibly working on school. I turned on "Mission: Organization" and there was "Maxwell Ryan." (Pre-marriage) He was doing the apartment with the orange wall that he mentions in the book.

And there on the wall was The AT Squiggle, part of a larger work by Amy. Amy's place looked great!

Hey! Nice to see a DC contingent. I'm in Adams Morgan, too. I don't make it to Tryst on my own with a laptop, though, since I'm a parent. We end up at the Diner!

Tryst is on my weekly stop by list. I work from home some I try to hit Tryst, Starbucks on 16th & U, BustBoy&Poets (when hungry), and I'm currently at the Caribou on 18th. I reside on the historic 1st St NW. There is a new cool coffee shop opening on 1st, called Big Bear. DC-ers should check it out!
