Has anyone been reading New York Home magazine?

http://www.nyhomemag.com/

I picked it up in an airport a few months ago and really liked it, but haven't been able to find it anywhere in DC or in that same airport since. I'm thinking of subscribing, but want to get opinions first.

This is not decor relevant...but given that it's a NYC-centric site, I'm sending up a plea.

My cat was just diagnosed with CRF and I need to find someone in Queens that can help me administer the sub-q. I have made no less than 15 phone calls to various vet's offices but as I am sure you can imagine, the receptionists aren't interested in suggesting anyone. I just keep gettinf the "we are not a referral service". My Vet will do it in the office, but that would require bringing her to the office 3 times a week - very stressful for her. Anyone know someone one with lots of sub-q experience or who is an assistant in a Vet's office and does this regularly? I am happy to pay for the assistance till I can get this under control myself. Thanks.

I Love Upstate,
I feel your pain. I've had to administer sub-Q to two different cats--this can go on for years, which it did in both cases for me. One cat was off and on it for a while. You get used to it after a while and then it's not so hard, esp. when you see what a huge difference it makes for your beloved cat.

Are there any visiting vets where you are? Also, some petsitters do this - you could pay for their assistance.

Pixie:

I would LOVE to find a petsitter that can do this. But I'm cautious about picking a name out of a hat on Craigslist. If anyone has someone they would suggest, please do not hesitate to email me at iloveupstate (at) gmail.com

Thanks!!!

upstate,

why not ask your vet to train you to do it? it will save you lots of money in hiring someone. anyway, i have a friend in astoria who knows tons of vet techs/pet people, i'll ask her if she knows of anyone.

good luck!

kd - the Vet did train us, but that was when she was in the office and in a quasi-state of shock and just sort of laid there and let us do it easily. Now she's home and is fighting like a banshee (which is a good sign). We almost stuck ourselves and managed to spray the fluids all over the kitchen and only got about half the treatment completed. For a sick kitty, she can really kick some butt.

upstate, have you tried to wrap the animal in a bath towel? That is the only way I can think of that will allow the animal to be calm enough for you to do the injections.

Help!
Somewhere (on this site?? in a magazine??) I saw a home office where they had made a large grid on the wall and used it as a giant planner.... does this ring a bell with anyone? I can't remember where I saw the pictures, but would love to find them again.

Thanks!

upstate,
perhaps you should sedate your kitty first :) just kidding, if only it were that easy. only advise i can offer is that with more practice it will get easier. also, make sure you're massaging the area while you're injecting the fluids or else they get this nastly lump of fluid under the skin. i would suggest no longer feeding your cat dry food (although my guess is vet probably recommended feeding you cat kd) and add some water the your cats food so that he gets as much fluids as possible. this is a really good website on how to care for crf cats: http://www.felinecrf.org/

Thanks all, really appreciate the suggestions. Regarding the felinecrf website, I've gotten the point where I think I can chant whole passages from it in my sleep.

Hey! Welcome to me! Thank you! :) Also, does anyone know where I can look to find some kind of guide or advice on how to place a rug? We'd like to use a rug we have from C&B in our new (hardwood) living room, but I'm not sure what the rules are about whether the couch should be on/off the rug, that type of thing. We're also thinking about buying a smaller rug for the bedroom but I'm even more lost in there as to where to place it.

Thanks!
