Does anyone have any experience with buying vintage furniture at The End of History on 548 1/2 Hudson Street in the West Village? I was walking by there this past weekend and the vintage rosewood Danish modern dresser in the window caught my eye. But $3500 (marked down from $4500) for a dresser?! Don't you think this is a little overpriced, even for mint condition mid-century mod stuff (unknown maker)?!

I just moved into a house with two friends. I moved out of a studio apartment, but still had to downsize. Anyway, I love mid century modern furniture, and was wondering if someone could recommend some elements, or a piece I could use. The problem is I am a 20 year old college student so while DWR maybe be on my list of places to buy from it won't be anytime soon. Does anyone known of any elements I could use with an mcm feel to it that would cost so much?

turtle, i see mid century going for insane amounts. i check craigslist every day to see if there's a mid century dresser for sale (that's what i'm looking for, too....grrrr...outta my way!) - i've seen amazing dressers for thousands of bucks, but i've also seen them for a few hundred bucks. hold out for the "find", unless you've got a few Gs to spare.

wood, i've found a few cool mid century lounge chairs on craigslist for, like, $100 and less. maybe instead of couches and credenzas, you could do a small mid-c chair, side table, and lamp? that shouldn't be too pricey....

Turtle and Wood-

I got great deal on some mid-century dining chairs on ebay. There's a lot on there and the prices vary widely.

zzzap, sorry I can't help with a recommendation but to answer your question in the other thread about the difficulty level, as long as you buy a prehung door, your opening is a standard size, and it is framed in wood attached to wall studs, then the job is fairly easy. I have re-installed an interior door on my own but you really need two people to complete the fiddly stage which is making sure everything is plumb.

After that, the hardest part will be to drill and chisel out the hole and mortise.

Search for "installing prehung doors" for more.

For someone to do it for you, try searching the services section of this site and read the comments to make sure the info is still up to date.

If you buy the door at Lowe's or Home Depot, can't they install?
Or put an ad up on Craigs List looking for someone to do it.

Turtle--
End of the History has a great reputation, so I'm sure their examples are pristine and unique. Worth the price tag to you? All relative, and only if you love-- and can afford-- it.

I have a poster that is 38 1/2 x 23 1/2. Someone gave me a large poster frame that is 27 x 40. Will a frame shop be able to center my poster for me via matting or otherwise?

Does anyone know where I can find iron mesh material. I want to create a piece of artwork like this:

That apartment is cool! How do you think they did the ceiling hangings? I'd like to do something like that.
