I posted this comment sort of late yesterday on the new FLOR tile post, but am reposting here, because I need some more convincing. Who has lived with FLOR for a while in a high-traffic area? I need to know if the edges fray or begin to look scraggly after some average use? The samples that they sent me are a mess on the edges (but I am hoping that is just because they are hastily cut samples).

thank you, wende!

ok, now that i've actually gone back and read it, it's a cheesy design, but i'm keeping the comment "That's so PRISON!"
description gold.

is something up with the comments numbers? From the main page it looks like no one has commented on anything...

At a friend's house I asked about a 'drip' sound and she showed me an electronic gizmo that she said repels roaches. She said another friend had one and thought it worked. Sounds too good to be true but I want one if it works. Anyone have experience with that?

Hey anyone know where I can find this in NYC http://tinyurl.com/yqzkbz ? I keep seeing larger versions on Craigslist but I want something this size or smaller. I dont really buy large items online so a brick and mortar place in NYC would be best.

With all this talk about coffee tables, I have a question of my own.
We don't have a coffee table. I love the open space in our living room and just don't want to put another thing on the floor there. That said, when we have friends over we WOULD like something to put food and drinks on while we chat.
Does anyone know of a table that folds up or otherwise collapses? We've been using a step stool, but the stool is getting really dirty and I don't feel comfortable putting it out when we have guests. Ideas?

Eliza -- Have you considered trying a set of nesting side tables?

Doug,
No, but that's a great idea. Thanks!

eliza -- folding tray tables or a folding rolling cart -- also a glass top table leaves space visually open

I don't know if you go for the acrylic look, but if you're also concerned about not taking up visual space -- you'd mentioned loving open space -- CB2 currently has a nice set of three for $199. I saw them in the catalog recently and thought the price was pretty good. They're available on www.cb2.com, if you're interested.

Does anyone remember seeing the magazine where Angelina Jolie posed with her son Maddox in a Paris hotel room? The blue colors in that room were fantastic and I especially loved the bed. This was from a couple of years ago and I continue to regret not buying the magazine. I tried googling to see if there are any images on the 'net. Does anyone know the magazine or have the pics to share?

robyn,
The edges of the Flor samples I got were exactly like the edges of the Flor pieces I eventually bought. They look rough, but I don't think they fray. I've had mine for about three years now. However, as I think I said on a much earlier Flor thread, the beveled edge and its roughness does seem to collect a lot of debris. Which really accentuates the fact that they are separate squares. I got Toy Poodle in black, so maybe that's why all those white little lint, etc. things get stuck there. The Flor fabric actually seems to grab them, so that it's really hard to vacuum it all up, even by hand with the open rod suction. Doesn't really bother me, but I do tend to clean it a lot. Makes me wish Flor would just cut-to-size. That would make my black square look so much sleeker and dramatic.

JonathanB and Doug,
I think that glass and acrylic are too much for me to maintain. I'm eyeing some nesting tables from Ikea, but I don't LOVE them so maybe I should wait to find something I really like.
(I did find these, but I think they are tall for my purposes, plus the rest of my room is mostly dark wood): http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/fur/418745791.html
Now I know what I"m looking for though! Thanks!

GZgoindmod aka Geraldine, do you have any idea what the place is called? Anything you can remember would be great. I would hate to go out there and not be able to find it.
Also if anyone has a brick and mortar source for Chinese antiques and reproductions in NYC and or something like this http://tinyurl.com/yqzkbz , please share.
I was so bummed cause I was in DC last week at the Capitol Hill market and found the perfect piece- beautiful and in my price range. Apparently it was an altar for displaying the Buddha. It would have looked great in my apartment but shipping would have put it out of my range. And stupid me, I decided to travel by bus.

Thanks Sea -- the issues you describe are exactly the ones I am concerned about. I think I will keep looking for a "regular" area rug -- I really love the way Flor looks in the catalog (and often on this website), but maybe it is just not for me.
