Okay, ATers, did I dream this or did someone once post about how the manufacturer of Restoration Hardware's bathroom fixtures also sells them unbranded on ebay at a huge discount? I searched the archives for naught; does anyone else remember this, or was it just wishful thinking on my part?

SarahB -- There was a comment in OT 226 about how Restoration Hardware products can often be found cheaper on eBay, but that's all I can find from a couple different Google advanced searches. And it's just that the stuff shows up there, not that there's any policy of selling it unbranded -- the comment suggests searching by model #.
There are also eBay sellers who use "restoration hardware" (no caps) in their listings so their stock will appear if you search for the retail brand, but I'm not enough of an RH afficionado to be able to tell if they're actually selling unbranded RH stock.

Thanks Wende! You are a better (or at least more patient) advanced Googler than I will ever be...

GZgoindmod aka Geraldine, do you have any idea what the place is called? Anything you can remember would be great. I would hate to go out there and not be able to find it.
Also if anyone has a brick and mortar source for Chinese antiques and reproductions in NYC and or something like this http://tinyurl.com/yqzkbz , please share.
I was so bummed cause I was in DC last week at the Capitol Hill market and found the perfect piece- beautiful and in my price range. Apparently it was an altar for displaying the Buddha. It would have looked great in my apartment but shipping would have put it out of my range. And stupid me, I decided to travel by bus.

I have nice Bali Roman shades in my bedroom, and blackout wasn't an option with this type. Big Mistake. I now have used baby blankets to keep the room dark, because my youngest still naps in my room. There is no space in the window to put more shades. These were expensive and custom fit so that added to the price. What else can I do to make it look decent and still get a darker bedroom?
thanks. see flickr page above

I'm thinking "toddler blindfold."

maxienyc,
You could always hang one large blackout curtain above the window.... it wouldn't look great but it would be neater than what you're doing at the moment.

What is everyone's advice when it comes to finding an apartment when you are a dog-owner? I've been looking for about 3 months now, and haven't found much of anything in Bay Ridge. I'm a quiet tenant with a good and steady job, and my dog never barks or has ever been a nuisance. But, the second I've told the super or landlord that I have a dog, they couldn't tell me 'no vacancies' fast enough. I've been to 7 realty places and only one office was even remotely interested in helping me.
Some people have told me to just move in with my dog without telling anyone. But, I'm not sure I want to live in fear of eviction after I move into my new apartment. In reality, what could happen if I did this?
p.s. - I'm desperate and hope this isn't against any AT policy, but, anyone know of a building in bay ridge open for dogs? I'd like somewhere nearish shore road so I can walk my dog in the park. please email me at l*d*u*n*b*a*r at mac [dot] com if you do.

maxienyc,
What about a simple pull-down vinyl-type shade? I see that you have very little room above and to the left of the window. Those shades usually come with hardware for mounting inside the window opening or outside on the wall. You could use the inside-mount bracket on the left side and the outside-mount bracket on the right side. It wouldn't be the prettiest, but it should function.
