For all those obsessed with moralizing about the quality of "original" designs ("I've had my office chair since 1947!") there are some interesting parellels in:

does any1 have any thoughts about using the cb2 runway console paired with the indie bench as an alternative to traditional dinning table? the console is long and narrow, but i wonder if it's wide enough to be considered a table to eat on.

Does anyone have suggestions for a nice, reasonably priced drafting chair or stool? One that doesn't look like standard office furniture. Maybe an vintage company name I could use for Ebay searches? The one I know is Toledo. I'm looking for something to go with my new drafting table
Check out my photos at Flickr - http://tinyurl.com/2694jm
I picked this table up on Craigslist for $50! Its made mostly from cast iron and has a great pedal operated hydraulic lift. I added a Vika Byske top from Ikea, cut it to size, and added a stainless steel edge.
It appears to be made by Nike of Eskilstuna Sweden. I can't find any info on the company so I'd also appreciate info others might have.
Thanks

SD913, the runway console is deep enough to hold a place setting. Would you be placing it against a wall?
For reference, the narrow tables that are used in meeting rooms where people sit on only one site of the tables (all facing the same direction) are usually 18 inches deep; the runway console is 14 inches.
However, many folding banquet tables are only 30 inches wide and seat people on both sides, so the depth is 15 inches per side. If you have a larger table available, you might try measuring out 14 inches and placing a box or other barrier at that point, to see how it would work.

Oops--meant to ask this in this thread, not ATLA. Sorry.
Is MDF "green"?
In a thread about the new BluDot desk yesterday, I was asking about whether the design, labor and materials justified the price. Wasn't trying to be critical--I was actually trying to understand. Anyways, someone raised an excellent point about companies like BluDot not being able to produce w/ same economies of scale as PB or Crate & Barrel, for example, which actually made a lot of sense to me. However, someone else suggested that this designer (or others at similar price points I gather) might be doing things in a more "green" fashion than other companies.
This leads me to my question--the desk is made of powder-coated steel and MDF. Is MDF considered a green material? Apologies if this has already been discussed on teh boards before, I can't find it.

MDF is made from wood waste, so it has the greenishness of using a byproduct of other production processes.
Some -- but not all -- MDF is made with urea-formaldehyde resin, which off-gasses a small amount of formaldehyde, a known respiratory irritant. That's not so green.

However, there are MDFs that do not contain formaldehyde. These are greener.

OK in NY (formerly MA),
thanks for the detailed reply. to answer ur question, yes it will be against a wall.
when in use, the bench will be against the wall w/ the console in front of it. when not in use, i had planned to push the console back up against the wall so it sits over top of the bench and doesn't protrude.
since the console is on casters this should be really easy to pull and push it back and forth. there's no room for seating on both sides unfortunately.
thanks,
sd

SD913, I would picture the console against the wall with the bench under it, and then pulling out the bench to use it while leaving the console against the wall - is this weird of me? I would think it would be better than having your food potentially sliding off the edge of your little table and having to sit with your back to the wall.

hi Anne (in Reno),
i hear what you're saying but if i pull the bench out and put the table against the wall then i'll be facing the wall with my back to the window. (picture if you would how a kid looks in time-out and they have to face the wall, well that's kinda what it would look like, well at least that's how i'd feel. lol). the other way i can have my back against the wall but seated on my cushiony bench and facing the window with table in front. if u can kinda see that in ur head that's what i was thinking, i know it's hard cause i didn't post a picture or explain that at first.
