I've noticed that when there's a big party announcing a winner of a contest the NY site is the last one to post the results the next day. I think that's odd. You'd think it would be the first thing on the site the following morning.

But...there are LA and SF sites for the West Coasters. Never mind, it's up now! It's just that this is a blog--the winners coulda been announced at 9 pm last night if the motivation was there.

I noticed a bunch of people who did the Cure had these nifty floor plans on their Flickr pages. As they all looked similar, I'm guessing they are from the same source. Can anyone clue me in? I'm having trouble with my room layout and can't keep moving my furniture around anymore!!
(Not easy because I have an L shaped room in a house with no right angles. I live in a parallellogram and it makes me want to die! :))

I am moving for the first time in a long, long time, so I have a stupid question. One tips movers, right? How much? Should it be 10% of the cost of my move, or more? Which is hundreds of dollars. :-( And you should see my outbox.

Christinebadina - I have the same problem with the no right angles! It's driving me crazy!
I didn't think it was that big of a deal until I started putting furniture in and things weren't parallel but started merging into each other on perpendicular walls. AHH!

Well, parallelograms may be a bit of a challenge with this program, but you can use a bookcase or something to "fake" the angle.
You'll have to do a screen shot to save any one design...but if you can manage that here it is:
In case that doesn't work, it's Arrange A Room by bhg.

I need to vent... A christmas tree stand just opended up across the street and they have a REALLY LOUD generator. It's like listening to a jackhammer for hours upon hours and I'm going to have to put up with it for a frickin month and a half!!! The city has a noise ordinance, but they won't do anything about it unless it's over 70 decibles.
I have a tiny studio with huge windows facing the street, so escape to another room isn't possible. So... any ideas on how to keep my sanity through this time without using earplugs?

I was in exactly the same position when I lived in my tiny apartment on 87th and Broadway years ago! Eve worse was the radio blaring Christmas carols, and the bullhorn the guy used in order to advertise his stock! Doesn't exactly put you in the Christmas spirit, eh?
I would try complaining to the city ... I could be wrong, but I believe there are different standards for intermittent noise and continuous noise. (I would also try banding together with other residents in the building/neighborhood to submit complaints ... but I remember having a hard time with that, because folks with larger apartments could just move to another room!)
Earplugs are a pain, but I have resorted to them when necessary.

The surprise is that... there is no surprise.
A triumph of postmodern minimalist design that made us all rethink about our relationship with numbers...

Maybe it's the Muji store opening.

If it is, that would be the letdown of the century.

Agreed.
I love Muji, but not enough to warrant a countdown.

Okay, but seriously, who won the Fall Colors Contest? Only one city has posted the results.
