Initial feedback on beta site (as I can't seem to post on it):
Firstly, there is no "more" to click on at the bottom of the post...one has to scroll to the title and click it to access the thread.
2) The back button is working again!
3) There's threads from every site here, not just New York. (I hope that's just a testing thing. )
4) The "AT" "look" is gone. There's no colour--it feels spartan. I miss the blue.
5) All the print is a bit small.
6) The side bar to the left (new) looks interesting: Top Posts and Top House Tours are easily asscessible in that spot.

Anyone use the "no fee apartment" type sites for NY where you pay a small fee (usually around $40) to get access? Are they worth $40?

Alana - the new site hosts all the cities but with filters. If you are only interested in New York posts, just click on the New York tag in the menu bar or at the bottom of a post. If you are only ever interested in NY posts, then bookmark that URL. This is a huge improvement because it will allow a user to search across all the city sites with a single search! It will also allow those interested in more than one city's posts to remain updated by visiting one main site (and it's a great improvement for editors of various cities to keep up-to-date on all the posts, reducing repeated information).

Other than finding that the search engine didn't seem to be operational and that the house tour sites in the left-hand menu lead to "404" pages when you're clicking from a subpage, my main beta comment would be: do some link weeding in the "more friends" bit (and elsewhere)! Those babies have GOT to be updated. I haven't looked at all of them by a longshot, but that miapartamento one is a classic. There are a total of about four posts from 2006 (I think) and the guy got bored of blogging before he even moved in. (I'll send you a link to my blog if you need some new ones. ;) )

Thanks aaron. I was just a bit disoriented. I could probably get used to it--even like it after a while. I'm happy about the search function--that's a terrific advantage.
But am I not supposed to be able to post?

All the comments are turned off in the Beta version to prevent confusing the system. They will be on when the switch is complete.
One of the main features of the redesign is in the multi-functional community pages — which aren't accessible until the comments are on and users are able to log in (I think)...this is where everyone will be blown away! (I was).
Yes, the links need to be weeded - we know! That is something that will be easy to do when the site is live.
Thanks for all the beta feedback...it's a work in progress and we're eager to get it up and running!

OK...I wanted to post this on the green a.t. section, but i don't think they have an open thread...
I'm trying to make a switch to green/homemade cleaning products and I'm trying to figure out a furniture polish solution. I found this article: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/alternative-furniture-polish.html
which suggests using a solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar to a couple of drops of oil. Anyway, I just thought I'd see if anyone had any experience with using a homemade furniture polish or if you have other suggestions for homemade cleaners, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!
