I was wondering if anyone knew where to find decent window shades made out of rice paper. I have been looking online for a while, but I can't find any that fit with the idea in my head. I'm looking for shades that have no other materials on them, such as bamboo, ribbon, etc... If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Can we please talk about how awesome Domino is? :) Ever since the first issue came out I've been waiting DESPERATELY for the second one, and I loved it just as much! I really think they've stumbled onto a winning formula. I like most design magazines but ultimately they don't really do much in terms of giving me practical suggestions on how to actually implement stuff. But with Domino, my mind is racing with awesome new ideas every time I flip the page! I really, really love the magazine - in case that wasn't obvious. :)

Has anyone had The Furniture Joint refinish furniture for them? They are in AP's resources but there's no commentary on how anyone's experience has been. I have a mahogany dresser that needs refinishing and would rather use someone with a recommendation.

I really like Domino too Carmen. Domino manages to feel approachable while being aspirational. I thought the article about how to pair a chair and a side table was great, as was the lamp review. The bit about the book club/card club was fun too. They also show products and ideas that are more affordable than in Met Home and Elle Decor.
My beefs with it:
Why must it be "girly"? I guess that's what market forces dictate.
Some of it looks to be lifted directly from Living Etc. I had always wised for an American version of this magazine, so maybe it's forgivable.

So, I just moved to Manhattan with my boyfriend and we have an awesome studio + alcove in Chelsea. We have about 600 sf and need to make a room divider for the main room. I would love to put in a shelving system but they tend to be too deep (let alone very expensive). We also thought about putting up a curtain system, something cheap from Ikea, but we have cats and the dust and hair will make them gross and difficult to maintain (at least, that was my experience in LA). My boyfriend wants to put in some sort of system that involves lighting but those too are wicked pricey. So do any apartment patients out there have any suggestions for a self lit, inexpensive, thin bookshelf, room divider thingy?

Madame Haute Negro, I guess that would be Apartment Diagnosticians...
The Ikea Expedit bookcase could work for you . . . bookshelf/storage/room divider, it's a good start and only 100 bucks. It's thin enuf, and who can say no to storage!?

I can't find it, but SOMEWHERE on here there should be an archive from last week sometime, or so, where they had this wonderful-looking lighting thing AND room divider combination thing. It was lovely, but I can't remember the price.

IKEA has some very thin, long, sheer silky panels which can be attached to a wire rod with clips. You can then stagger some can lights on the floor to shine up on either side.
I have curtain panels from Habitat (same company) in a bronze taffeta-like material and they're completely machine washable and come out great.

I'm trying to decorate my soon-to-be-born son's nursery. Much as I'd like to outfit the room in a combination of Oeuf, Nurseryworks and Netto Collection, since I won't be earning any money once the baby is here, I'm going to have to spend our money on essentials, like the almost 100 diapers I've been told these rugrats go through!
We're being given a friends old crib and a bunch of other stuff but we're willing to spend some dollars on one good storage piece which can double as a makeshift changing table. It has to be kid friendly too, no lovely wood pieces that show every scratch.
We've been eyeing the BLU DOT MODULICIOUS and STRATA series online. The STRATA series has sliding rubber cabinet doors and the frame is made of plywood. Has anyone seen these in the flesh? How is the sliding? Nice and smooth or does it stick annoyingly like my mom's old wood sideboard? The MODULICIOUS has metal doors and is pricier. Any opinions on either of these series?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions! To answer Curtis, yes, I remember seeing that wall divider light thingy and I thought, "perfect!" But it's prohibitively expensive (I can't find it either, but I remember making that gag-choke sound when I first saw the price.) It turns out I have a friend of a friend who's a theater set director and lighting designer, and we're going to see what we can do with some MDF, flourescent tubes, and veneer. If we manage to get something together, AT will be the first place I show the product!

Hey Chris,
Yeah Domino is totally girly - you're right. But I guess they figured it would be an easier audience to target...
