From C2 below: Why are some of the Eames plywood chairs $295 and others almost $800 for the same style at different establishments?

I don't know about the year, but the shell looks like that of the Eames Zenith chair. If it's authentic, my guess is 50s?

The dealer said it was authentic. It was $180.00. I really liked the color of the wool(?).

C2, that chair (Eames PAC-97/Dash 97, swivel base, 1442 hopsack upholstery) was in production a number of years. This example is most likely from the late '60s - mid '70s. If the labels underneath the chair are intact, they will show the production date.

In this condition (fabric obviously pulling away from the foam) and with this style of base, I personally would not pay more than $75 for it. I say that as the owner of several dozen vintage Eames shell chairs of various styles. The most I've paid for a shell/base like this is $150, and that was for one in PRISTINE condition. I have one in similar condition to the one shown -- I paid $20. A good deal, yes, but I did it knowing that it will need to be reupholstered at a cost of more than $200.

Upholstered Eames shells really aren't that rare. Don't pay too much!

I want to install a ventless ribbon fireplace in a client's apt. But I've heard that NY doesn't permit these types of fireplaces. I'm not sure that's true. Does anyone have information on this? Or know where I can get it?

I'm taking tomorrow off and going fishing. I'm not obsessed like my father and brother, but there is something to be said about casting a line into the deep blue water of long island sound (we launch from the eastern ct shores) as you sit aboard a vessel and watch the sun rise. But this is my family so our laughter and antics will likely scare the fish away! I hope it doesn't rain.

Thank you Anna at D16! Appreciate it. Another question. Why are some of the Eames plywood chairs $295 and others almost $800 for the same style at different establishments?

C2, there are a lot of factors to consider -- the date of manufacture (in general, the older the production, the more valuable), the condition of the wood, the condition of the rubber shock mounts, whether the tags are intact, etc. There's no exact price that's "right" -- dealers will charge as much as they think they can get in whatever region they're in.

Please forgive the fact that I'm new, so these questions have probably been asked a million times.

I hear this Web site started around an 8 week "cure" for home decor/design...is that true? I saw that there is a book. But is there anything about it (the "cure" not the book, I can google that) online?

Also, since I'm a newbie, does anyone have any recommended articles they can link me to?

I'd especially like to read ones that either spawned or explain any "inside jokes" or "inside facts" that all members of this site should know (like, why does everyone hate on IKEA, yet refer to IKEA all of the time? Etc). I've discovered the "royal we" thing, the Carry On poster everyone hates, and the apartmenttherapy tags on Flickr.

But I'd love to read articles that are just great articles, too.

Mrs. Mack- normally there is a Fall cure and Spring cure where we all choose one room and share results each week. I did Spring this year. Hopefully, I can do a Fall cure for my spare bedroom this year.
