apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

i have a beige sofa, infact 2, the one in the guest room is a Manstad from Ikea. now i want to paint this room but i am stuck...i want it neutral though just because i have had the same bold colors for 5 years ad i need change.
this room get no light and has one narrow long window.
i was thinking of a bright but light blue (dont want ot make it look like a nursery) or a grey. any ideas.

does any one have an opinion how this would look behind a couch in the LR.

I have beige furniture and painted my walls a soft grey and it looks really nice, in my opinion.

those prints are pretty cool. they are pretty kid-ish, especially the alphabet ones, but some out of context might look nice. I especially like the "B" one.

I'm heading into the city Friday looking for some fun home decorating. We have eclectic taste, lots of bizarre neat things that just pop out to us.

Basically, I'm looking for an ABC Carpet & Home, but cheaper. Any ideas? (I understand size wise, that's insane, but neat boutiques are fine with me!)

Leaudemiel, I love the store Boca Grande Furnishings. It's at 54 Greene St. in Soho and if you go down in the basement you can find some of the oddest, coolest stuff. You may get a bit dirty while digging thru everything. The main floor and second level have great things as well. I always shop there for clients.

You really should check out Pearl River as well. It's on Broadway bet. Grand and Broome St. (also in Soho). All along that stretch you'll find Muji, CB2, Z Gallerie and some cheap clothing stores.

Does anyone know where I can get a slip cover professionaly dyed? I thinking of buying the white cover for my Ikea Ektorp loveseat and getting it dyed, since I'm not too fond of their selection and Bemz is so expensive. I have considered getting some RIT and doing it myself, but dye that much material tiny apartment bathroom sounds like disaster to me.

Any thoughts?

Sarah - the most affordable option for having it done would probably be to look to some design students at FIT/Parsons. If you go to a fabric store or browse Craigslist, you'll see ads for sewing services. At least some of these kids will be experienced in dying as well. Good luck! I need inspiration.

My home office/craft area is filled to capacity with books, art supplies, paints, paintings, printers, computers, etc. I need to do a massive reorganization and get everything off the floor and into storage.

Any ideas where I can look for storage inspiration?

Does anyone know of a "green" non-toxic alternative to Resolve carpet cleaner? I want to use it on my sofa and rug which my dog lives on, but he has really sensitive skin.
