I picked up a new Better Homes & Gardens "specialty interest" magazine last night and there's an article about living and working in a small apartment with Maxwell credited for helping his friend with the organizing and all! Yea! (For the life of me, I cannot recall the name of this premier issue - I'm at work and the magazine is at home - Maxwell???)

PS to Amber - I can't seem to describe the bracket things that connect my two table tops on my art table - do you want me to snap a dig photo and email it to you?

Title is "r: real + life decorating".

Most of the issue was so-so, but I did snag a few ideas here and there. My main gripe with BH&G is that they recycle articles and photos. I don't like to shell out $ for magazines only to find them stuffed with articles that I already have in the other "special interest" issues they'd published (With the exact same photos no less).

I actually liked the issue quite a bit. Had a Domino vibe, but was not a girls only estrovaganza.

Oh P2, you have such a way with words!

Yeah, sure Libby, if it's not too much trouble. I'm at amber AT myaimistrue DOT com.

Thanks!

It's a tough choice: spread "estrovaganza" far and wide now, or save it to launch on the unsuspecting on special occasions?

It's yet another gorgeous day in Frisco, so I could spray paint thrift-store finds if I had any paint. Time to (sigh) take the car out and (sigh) go to Michael's on the way to teach logic to MBA students in the far 'burbs. I got these hexagonal block puzzle things at the Japanese dollar store, and they'd look modern if they were painted a reasonable color, more French flea-market if they were painted an unreasonable color.

My goodness Kathryn, your loft looks amazing!
I take back everything I said about the chocolate brown Charles ;)

We have the same Le Klint light shades which we tried to sell (here as well as on CL) because our new place was a new construction with no ceiling fixtures. No one showed any interest which turned out to be a good thing because I managed to get authorization to get the ceiling chopped and light fixtures installed.

We have a wide entrance hall and I have been wanting to put a narrow bench there, for putting on and taking off shoes, but the couch in your guest room would look even better. Where did you get that from?

jamie pup,
Thanks for them compliments! I think I had *just* ordered my Charles when I came across that comment and I nearly had a breakdown. Making that upholstery decision was pure torture for me.

I'm also trying to figure out what to do with my long hallway. The little entry-way table was from a previous apartment and is too small for the space. I also considered a bench, but that isn't really practical because it's too far away from the front door.

The sofa in the guest room is called the Reverso,

You're the expert on plasma tv's, right? I'd love to discuss that with you offline...

I am so sorry Kathryn! I know how hard it was for me and my wife to pick the color and material of our sofa so I feel bad now that I made your decision process worse.

I actually have been getting into dark brown furniture, walls, floors etc more recently and seeing pics of your place, Ptoo's place and one of the west coast bedrooms in the color contest is really giving me great ideas of how to incorporate it with other colors.

I love your deep orange (can orange be deep?) chairs with the brown Charles and I also like what you did in the end with the Wenge shelves.

About plasmas; yep, I know pretty much everything that is important about them and LCDs and would be happy to discuss. If the email as url does not work then my email address is jammypup@gmail.com

When I lived in NYC, I had the black leather sofa and glass coffee table look. I refer to it as the "Duran Duran" period. 10 years later, I knew I wanted to use orange. They're somewhat more muted than I had expected which probably worked out for the best.

I was so tempted to ebonize my floors based on the B&B Italia ads, but I think that would have been going a bit too dark!

(Will follow up with you separately re: tv's!)

I am so loving the "Duran Duran" period reference. Permission to adopt and use freely ms. kathryn?!? :)

Hopefully, that situation does not arise as frequently as you suggest?? But by all means, feel free to use at will!
