Name: suzy8track
Collection: 8-Tracks
Size: Approximately 1,000 tapes and 6 portable players
Value: Priceless...at least to me!

This collection was started back in 1997 when I was in school full-time and quite poor. It was a fun and cheap hobby and most of the tapes cost me approximately .50 each. It was exciting because you never knew what you would find in the local thrift stores...it was like treasure hunting...

Once in awhile amongst the many Barry Manilow and Lawrence Welk tapes you would come across a Beatles tape. The hunt is definitely the best part of collecting and when you found something you really wanted, it was a thrill.

Once people found out that I collected 8-track tapes friends and family would clean out their attics and just give me tapes and players. When I started collecting I used to buy any tape that I could get my hands on (even if it was music I didn't like), but over the last few years, I've been whittling down my collection and only keeping those tapes that I love. Also, I moved to a much smaller place, and I just don't have the space to display the entire collection now.

My favorite players are the 2XL Robot, whose eyes light up in time with the music, the Weltron 2001 which looks like a giant space helmet and the Panasonic Dynamite player which looks like a detonator. My favorite tapes are the K-tel and Ronco tapes that have a mix of various artists.

Omigod! 2XL the Robot. I remember that commercial.

"Correct! You're very smart...for a human."

I loved my 2XL! I would listen to the tapes over and over. I think free 2 be you and me was my favorite tape. I wish I still had some of those tapes, as a kid, I loved the stories that went along with the 2XL

You're making me regret the day my mom gave my 2XL away (when I was in my lat 20's already) to my ungrateful little cousins!

I have the helmet in orange, but the 8-track player doesn't work. I wonder if I could get that fixed?

My parents just gave me a bunch of boxes that were up in their garage and were full of my toys and books from childhood. Lo and behold, 2XL and various cassettes were stowed away.

As much as I loved it, I donated it and a bunch of books and other toys to a local charity. I have my memories and hopefully there is a child enjoying the old-schol magic of that 8 track lovin, sass talkin robot.

I had the same 8 track 2001 player when I was a kid. Used to listen to the soundtrack to Shaft over and over and over...wish I still had it!

I loved 2XL ... I thought I was the only person who used him to listen to 8-tracks, though!
