Try this at home. While spending a great deal of time trying to figure out how best to do floorplans, we have succumbed to the allure of Visio and discovered that others have as well. Jake (aka Bluejake) has posted a Visio rendering of his apartment and included the file as well, so that you can download it and try your hand at rearranging his home. The problem is that he's done a good job (at least with Visio), and it will take some creativity to impress him.
Visio is the visual everything program that goes with Microsoft Office and you can download a free 30 day trial version from the Visio site. It is fairly simple and not fussy, which makes it appealing, and it does allow you to email your results in a word document when you are done. Yes, Visio is a wonderful tool for reorganizing rooms! you can experiment easily with different layouts...and rises far, far above the primitive ways of itty bits of graph paper and tape loops.
