Year-at-a-Glance Wall Calendar

08.09.calendar.jpg

Organization rules your entire home decor with a year-at-a-glance wall calendar of this size. The 3x4' dry erase board from Magnatag Visible Systems has a cell for each day of the year. You can plan your year out literally right before your eyes with this.

AT reader Scarfish told us about the board and is on the hunt for something similar but less, er, dominating. We haven't seen a board like this in a small size, but we think even the large board could be used in an interesting way. Or, take the idea and transfer it, permantently, onto a chalkboard-painted wall. The grid design could look cool and you could update the calendar in chalk.

Ahem. The big one is over a grand. Why can't you just get a massive piece of paper and do this yourself?

With the left over money, you could buy yourself a pony.

Ah, Kah, ponies and organizational calendars - two of my favorite things! But only if they coordinate...

It's nice, but as mention by Kah, over a grand?? For that price I can buy 1,000 sheets of paper and some really nice markers. It would be nice if we saw some things like this that are practical and not interested in my wallet for the purposes of financial rape.

This is a project planning tool for offices -- it's meant for use by teams so the whole team can see critical path, choke points, etc., in a project that takes a year or more to complete. Another use is to coordinate staffing within a department so you don't overload one or two people and underload the rest.

Unless you have a really complicated family life, using this at home is like swatting a mosquito with a nuclear missile.

If I had an organizational chart taking up an entire wall of my house I think I'd end up being stressed out and depressed all the time. The home environment should be a retreat from schedules and charts and all that craziness. If you really have to keep a schedule for yourself, write it in a notebook and keep it out of sight so you can relax the rest of the time.

Having this on a wall of my house would put me into panic mode everyday.

for about $12, you could just take a regular ole hanging wall calendar, rip out the pages individually, and use poster putty to put them on the wall. your whole year in front of your eyes for a heck of a lot cheaper (albeit not dry-erase-y).

if you wanted to make it dry-erase-y, you might be able to tape all of the pages together, laminate the whole big display, or even cover it with a kind of contact paper. i have no idea if that would work, but there must be some cheaper d.i.y. solution available for you craftsy folks out there.

This looks like a great tool for its intended purpose...but it's pretty ugly. Anyone know where you can get, like, a roll of wipe-off sheeting and create one yourself?

We used one of these in my office and the one major caveat is that, because it is a GIANT magnet you can't put it anywhere near a printer or a computer or anything else that gets disrupted by magnets. I'm pretty sure the one we had wasn't as expensive as this one, but it was just as ugly!

How about any of these instead - http://www.officeworld.com/search_results/static/S100886/?gclid=CIn3g5-I6Y0CFRqDIgodTldJuA

At $22 per year, you'll save money unless you think you'll need one every year for the next 45.

while i understand that some people might need extra help with calendar coordinating (especially if they have multiple children) , something like this is usually reserved for office environments. besides the fact that it is not particularly attractive, if i had this hanging on a wall at home, i would feel like i was back at the office. NOT the way that i want to feel when I am at home. thank you, but no thank you. (and the price? ludicrous)

There was this great movie called If Lucy Fell with Sarah Jessica Parker in 1996. She and her roommate painted a giant calender on her loft (at least I remember her living in a loft) wall each month. They would write all over it, and the paint over it and start fresh each month. I've been dying to try in on my walls for over 10 years at this point!

As a teacher, I would *love* to have 2 or 3 of these onhand. The more help I can get in organization, the better! (Computers do the organizing, but year-at-a-glance = microscopic font.)

Alas, being a teacher, I'll take the option of replicating the idea with paper.

This would be perfect for the Duggar family and their 17 children.
