DIY Cuddle Puddle. Beautiful and costly at $9k, the design is so simple, what's to stop you from building one of these yourself for far less? Granted, the metalwork is first class, it can be done.
We spotted the Merendero seating environment (designed by José A. Gandía, manufactured by Gandia Blasco) and just wanted one of these as a little outdoor dinner nook on our imaginary roof (we don't have access)...

The cubelike structure lights up so nicely and you can sit inside with a perfect amount of room for four people. Built properly, it weathers nicely and never needs to be moved. Just throw your large white flowing sheet over the top and open a bottle of wine. Designed by José A. Gandía, it can be found at full retail at 217 East 59th Street (212.421.6701).
Made of anonized aluminium. Backs and plyethylene accessories. 30kg. Polyuretane foam rubber. Removable upholstery.

But apparently you have to throw away all your non-white clothes for full effect.

(not that I wouldn't unroll the linen and accept an invitation right now)

Wow. that's really sad, Guido.
We spend all sorts of time in our backyard. This weekend it was throwing a ball with the dogs, laying cement block for a garage, watering the plants, looking at the plants, picking cherries off our trees, and just sitting and looking. We plan on buying patio furniture, as long as it will weather well, because we KNOW what the dirt storms throw up. Its got to be all metal, because glass or plastic will blow away.
But yeah, the only reason we would know the furniture to buy and the money to spend is because we've had 4 plastic chairs in our yard for 3 years, and had friends bring chairs over when we had outdoor parties.

"dirt storm"?

I'm thinking that for such an item to succeed, the material, design, and technical execution all need to be stellar. I don't think that happened here. Imagine the denizens of a local diner or greasy spoon in these booths, and you'll see them for what they are. . . .

Aulaire,
Yes, that's what I thought; this looks like a booth from a greasy spoon.

Guido:
"dirt storm"
In the high desert and plains we get storms (thunder, lightniing, high wind) and no rain - massive amounts of dirt, dust and debris flying around though. It's especially bad since we have resevoir project around the corner (30 acres of dirt!).
