We recently posted the Pleats-Pleats sofa design that had us thinking of Janel's Macrame prediction — now that macrame is embedded in our subconscious, it's popping up in other modern interpretations. The latest? These handmade polyester poufs and planters by Ineke Visser...
Handmade and designed for outdoor use, the tough crocheted polyester cord is UV-resistant. The different shaped low poufs are made from the crocheted cord being stretched over a rubber tire! The coordinating planters cover up plastic pots.
We found them available from Heins Home — direct from the designer. They're very expensive (€275 - €600) but more proof that truly modern macrame is right around the corner!

I thought the black one looked like a tire. These would look better not in black, due to actually being the size of a tire, although that leaves the tan one looking like a donut.
Nice outdoor poufs!

Woo-hoo! These might be very expensive, but they'd be really really easy to make. You buy some wastepaper baskets at the dollar store. Drill a few drainage holes (or not, if you're going to use it as a cache-pot). Spray paint them the color you want (since the plastic will show through the crochet a little bit). Crochet some cord or rope around them, and voila! a nice lightweight portable planter. So cool. Watch for my sale, mine will go for only, oh, say, $200 or so :)
