Cheap Escape: Sleeping in Hammocks

One thing to remember during this Escapes Month here at Apartment Therapy is that escapes come in all forms and budgets. A simple nap outdoors can be an escape...

When is the last time you napped outdoors? We can't really think of a time we've slept in a hammock, but after seeing these photos, we may just have to escape to it sometime soon. What are some other simple escapes to keep in mind for summertime?

My husband and I have the opportunity to receive a free travel hammock, very similar to the third picture shown. I'm not sure we'd get much use out of it, though, considering we'd probably prefer to lounge together. Does anyone have any fabulous experiences with this type of hammock?

as a little girl, I always used to love reading and sleeping in the hammock at my Grandmother's house in Puerto Rico... sometimes after lounging for many hours when I'd get out, seemed that the ground swayed a bit.

I haven't been in a hammock for about 10 years...but it was always a dream of mine to have my own hammock! And we will in about a month!

My parents have a canvas hammock hanging between two palm trees in their back yard. It is perfectly positioned, allowing for dappled sunlight and afternoon breezes. Wish I was there now.

We loved our free standing hammock kept on a screened porch...our cat, however, inexplicably decided it was a fine place to poop on...so, disinfect, replace, spray w/pet repellent....no luck. No more hammock.

my parents had a free standing one, and wasn't as much of a fan of it, plus it was like the intertwine rope kind, so it always left marks all over you.

my dream is to have a nice large padded one somewhere. I also see them at the store and think "how could i get this on my balcony..." So until i have a house, no hammock for now.

I love hammocks!!! I'm from Bermuda and every time I go home I make a point to take at least one nap in the hammock under the big poinciana tree in my parents' back yard! There is no better way to spend a hot sunny afternoon!
