A local favorite, the Gowanus Nursery has been mentioned repeatedly as a favorite resource in our Greenest Thumb Contests. Gowanus? Oh yes. Where else are you going to find the room and the sunshine you need to grow great plants? Well, Red Hook is where now. They actually relocated there from Gowanus this spring.

While they are open only five days a week and keep seasonal hours, Gowanus Nursery is a serious nursery.

Citysearch says that Gowanus is a "seasonal outdoor nursery that provides Brooklynites with hard-to-find, unusual annual, perennials and shrubs; design services available." (reposted from 2006-06-28 original).
