IKEA Summer 2008 Collection: Even More

3-24-ikea-summer.jpg

Earlier today, Jonathan posted a sampling of IKEA's New Summer Collection. When we finally got a chance to check it out, we found this gigantic collection had a lot of great designs that would work well outdoors and indoors...

SOMMAR colorful cushions are $8.

VAJON tiered plant stands help fit a lot of green in a little space for $40 each.

SALVIA Trellis Kit is $15 for a kit of 9 parts. This is one of those very basic IKEA products just begging to be hacked!

Colorful SOMMAR Tray Tables are only $7.

If ATLA's post and this weren't enough, check out the majority of the collection featured on IKEA's website. In addition to lots of outdoor lighting and textiles, there is huge collection of new gardening designs worth checking out.

Those planter stands look great - especially in white...
...I may have to try my hand at balcony gardening again.

Those cushions remind me of getting your hair braided at venice beach... also they are only 10" diameter. What do you do with a 10" pillow?

I have the plant stand in terracotta. Works great as a mail holder; not so much as a plant stand because of the way it drains (hole in the middle of the bottom of each planter). Those pots are HEAVY so definitely make sure you put the stand together tightly.

I posted that plant stand the other day for Andy/SFWriter for his backyard. More for his deck that looks out on the yard. It's ideal for going up, rather than out, to help create beauty and color in a compact footprint. It's basically on of the IKEA mottos from several years back "Think Cubic".

For the drainage hole, which is NECESSARY, put a flattish stone or piece of broken clay pot over the hole. Water can then drain, without the top of the planter taking on the appearance of an hourglass, collapsing in the middle as all the dirt leaks out.

For the lowest planter, a high-edged terracotta saucer will help to collect any water that runs out.

If water is gushing out of any of the holes, the planter is being watered incorrectly. Many folks use too much water in their planters. I used to too.

We all drink liquids every day. Storing up those liquids for a week and saying we can quench our thirst only once a week, with a LOT of water doesn't help.

Some plants like a little bit every day. Others thrive on neglect and rare water. It depends on the plant.

Most of the great summer collection items were unavailable even on the store from the proper launch, at least on Sunrise Florida, and most of them are gone right now and we are just in June, that's frustrating! We hope Ikea re-stock the collection soon, and leave it the whole year around! (at least in Florida where we have summer all the time)

As of Friday, August 29th, the Minneapolis (called Twin Cities in their directory) IKEA has the Salvia Trellis 9-pack for (drum roll please) $2.99. I got 6 or so.
