Inside-Out at MOS's Hill House

New York City architects MOS designed the Hill House in upstate New York. It was designed with much consideration for its sloping site, the view, and the outdoors. In fact, an entire void of outdoor space penetrates the plan down to the home's basement living room...

The indoors and out are so integrated in the Hill House design that at first glance it appeared the moss garden up top was on the home's interior. Pull back a bit, though, and you see that the space is actually exterior, deftly woven into the volume of the house:

Love the simplicity, but the execution looks very Ikea to me. Home Depot-like sliding doors and windows; wood floors that look like laminate. Love the clean lines. However, the final result looks cheap.
