Modern Trellis at Affirmation Arts

This modern trellis over at ATSF yesterday reminded us of the Affirmation Arts building on West 37th Street. The gallery building is clad in metal and has a modern trellis as a major part of its facade...

0627_affirmation2.jpgAffirmation Arts exhibits up and coming artists and also rents out their gallery space for special events. Their modern trellis, made of a grid of aircraft cable, covers a portion of the facade and then rises up above to screen an outdoor roof terrace.

The cool thing about a trellis like this is that in the summer it's full of plantings that provide shade from the hot summer sun. In the winter, the plantings thin out and allow sunlight into the space. Anyone wanting to check it out just has to take a little bit of a hike: the building is way over on the west side near Javits. photos by Paul Warchol via Affirmation Arts
