apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Outdoor Home: Frank & Alan's Grill with a View

Name: Mid-C Frank and Alan
Location: Rowayton (Norwalk) CT - 1hr on MetroNorth Commuter trains

If the outdoors means grilling, then this is for you. A treetop perch just north of the city that provides the outdoor dining room any apartment dweller would love to have:

"Buying a suburban apartment so we could spend more time with Alan's son presented some compromises (neither of us like the 'burbs) -- but when it came to the quality of the space, there were would be no compromises!..."

"While our unit (condo-speak!) is a terrific space, the icing on the cake was the common outdoor spaces and private terraces -- the best of "outdoor living" -- and without the hassle of lawn care and other upkeep, which woudl be difficult in a weekend situation dedicated primarily to a young person.

And most important for Alan -- a place to grill! Take a look at our great terrace, just off the dining room, our favorite place to eat whenever the weather allows, and often a place for cooking even when it's too chilly to eat outside.

We're on the third-- and top -- floor, but our building is on the highest part of the grounds, giving us expansive views of greenery and sky!"

Mid-C Frank

(Thanks, MC Frank!)

Great space! Is your throwing arm good enough to launch corn cobs into the pool? ;)

Lucky ducks for having such a great view.

And I agree with phaedrus: "A small cool patio competition would seem to be in order"!

Hi Mid-C Frank,

That navy blue looks fantastic against the red-brown wooden table.

Also admire the the sleek and seriously professional quality BBQ grill (what brand and model?)

I just noticed the planter in the corner of the first pic - next to the BBQ. Info on that, please?

Planter is from Ikea, about 2 years ago -- it was the last on on display, no price or UPC code -- we had a struggle with the cashier but finally got them to relent -- was just under $30 and we love it.

BBQ grill is Charm Glow -- from Home Depot -- no idea what model # at this point, and they change every year anyway. We would really prefer charcoal, but the condo board and local fire depart have other ideas -- and for good reason!

Last but not least -- we like the pool, so no corn cob throwing contests. Funny, a memo just went out about rules and behavior at the pool -- apparently there's been some issues lately. Have you moved into our complex?
