Sexy Eco Landscaping: Bernard Trainor, Mark Word...

Finally. In this great article, we're starting to see where sustainability is evolving with beautiful aesthetic - form and function are starting to work together: "Over the past five years, as climate change has become more obvious and energy costs have spiraled up, a number of designers have begun to champion an approach to landscaping that marries traditional environmental concerns — sustainability, biodiversity, restoration, conservation — with a sensitivity to aesthetics and a flexibility that they said was missing from green-gardening crusades of the past."

The pictures are marvelous and the overview of the landscaping world is informative. We only wish we could also see INSIDE these houses as well....

It's hard for me to take these guys seriously when they keep talking about sustainability and eco friendly landscaping but they have a huge dang pool sitting in the backyard. That's so eco-friendly. BTW, I wouldn't want to have a yard like that and a pool next to it...can you imagine how dirty that thing gets? so much for the asthetics of it all....

i love the minimalism of the pool in marin. reminds me of a richard misrach photo used on the cover of a lloyd cole album years ago... but much less derelict. seems like from a water-use standpoint, though, pools are not the best use of resources. would love to see some well-design covered pools (with integrated covers) that help to retain water provide safety (and help the tidiness).

btw, in the captions above: "Charlottesvill, VA", should be "Charlottesville, VA"

I'm somehow thinking these pools are really for the wild animals that live in the area---can you just see the gathering late at night. Perhaps there is also a Green electrical shock system that surrounds the vast acreage and pool to keep out the riffraff from the neighborhood.

The pool boy does show up twice a day from the nearby town about 50 miles away to clean!

I will admit this is really something!
