Walden by Nils Holger Moormann

A place for everything and everything in its place. Even outside. Walden is a structure that encases items for outdoor living, everything from a wheelbarrow to firewood to seating to a watering hose.

Named after Henry David Thoreau's Walden, the design honors outdoor living. The framing of each object lends a shrine-like importance to even mundane tools. The Walden celebrates everything about the outdoors, chores and all.

If I were on the water, I certainly wouldn't stick a Walden right in the middle of my view! Oh well, they probably put it there just for promotional purposes. . . .

I think Thoreau would find this utterly ridiculous.

Then again Thoreau would find half the things shown on this website somewhat ridiculous. No way he'd spend $3000 on an Eames chair.

Sure, but the Eames chair isn't named in tribute to him...

It's an interesting structure and I like the separate compartments. But as it stands it's an incredible waste of space. It utlizes both the front and back, requiring it to be placed so both sides are accessible, thereby dividing two areas. But why (and where) the hell would anyone use this? It's certainly out of place in the pictured setting. And the seating in the middle: wth? You'd need a modern, totally open rectangular plot of land with a flower garden on one side and a vegetable garden on the other for this thing to even make sense...

If I were to get ahold of one of these I would ditch the garden tools and gut it. I'd replace 60% of the wood with transparent/translucent "3form" acrylic and turn it into an post-modern "playhouse" for kids. That would look much better in the pic, and you'd be able to see the view through most of it.

You mean, like a shed....

I'm surprised more people don't love this thing, and no, it's not like a shed. this is an inhabitable "node" in a way. the rakes and wheelbarrow are what i think make people think of it as a shed, but they are missing the dining room, bedroom, ladder, view platform. i don't know if I'd call it genius, but it's very cool.
