Jimmy Sperber: Artist & Decorative Painter

2005_16_sperberafter.jpg

Jimmy Sperber has a vision all his own. An artist who has shown at Gen Art, Caelum and the Eickholt Gallery, he has recently been transforming his contemporary shapes onto walls in colors with a luminous quality that really pops.

We recently recieved this pic of a project he is finishing. These bathroom walls are done with Golden Interference blue acrylic paint over regular house latex and took two days. Jimmy says the cost of doing this runs between $700-$1400 depending on the size of the walls and the client.

We ran pics of another project back in January. For those who want to do something vivid and contemporary, we think he's a valuable resource. MGR

The cost depends on the size of the client? Very funny! Only kidding. This looks great. If only I'd heard of Jimmy before I chose that pricey tile for my bathroom.

I've laways been a fan of John Baden's work on the west coast. However, it looks like one of his pieces is a copy of a design by Jackie Shapiro of frnech bull.

I think this is beautiful. Somewhere between tile and bamboo.

I'd love to see close-ups, so I could see if I could pull it off myself. Not likely, I guess...

Dee--
It looks like that design was executed for a retail store. Perhaps it was done specifically to mimic that French Bull piece?

The Jimmy Sperber stuff is fantastic. I would take that blue bathroom as is. I know exactly zero about redo's, and not having done anything like that, I never pay attention to price. Would this type of wall design be cheaper than tiling?

The finished look is just amazing.

Dorio,

We're currently having our 5' by 8' bathroom remodeled. We've picked slate for about half the walls and the floor as well as some of that pebbled tile (like a sheet of river rock) as an accent border and it's costing us more than the prices quoted for Jimmy including installation.

Ok, ok, I'm his mom...but I still say Jim (I haven't called him "Jimmy" since he was five!) has done a dazzling job with my guest bath down here on the Jersey shore. It's in that celadon bamboo design which I've accented with bamboo framed photos and medicine cabinet.

Thanks for the nice feedback. My studio is on Crosby St. in Manhattan. Lots of work coming in, but there is always room to do some more "ultra-finishes." To see some of my flat art work, go to SperberArt.com. Cheers, Jim Sperber 917-972-0444.
