apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

From Readers: Tim's DIY Graphic Hallway

Tim sent us some pictures of his amazingly ambitious do-it-yourself graphic paint job in his hallway (and we're totally envious!):

Hi, I just completed this painted wall mural and wanted to share. I measured and drew it out by hand and then slowly added the three colors: black is flat, green is egg shell and the off white is semi gloss. Attached are just a couple of quick photos of the hallway complete...

It looks great! I don't think that I would have the patience for that. I'd get through one row of painting and my partner would have to finish!

I am totally amazed by the precision. More details of the story, please. Did you freehand, stencil, tape? How long did you work on it? What was your inspiration? Gee, I ask a lot of questions, don't I?

Wow, you did that by hand, how long did that take, you have tons of patience. If I can't do something in 15 minutes.....great job!

Can you give me more information about the bottom half of the wall? The house I'm living in has a "not that nice" wood wainscoting and I need to do something to it!

That's Anaglyptic wallpaper...

It took me about a month form start to finish, working on it in my spare time.
I first painted the back wall the same color as the wainscoting (semi gloss) then began measuring and drawing the pattern with a straight edge-first drawing out a grid as a guide for the diamond pattern.
There was no pattern or stencil.
As for painting the diamonds-I ended up using painters tape (which I almost never use) to mask out each color for a cleaner, crisper final finish.
