If you don't want to paint your whole apartment black, but would like to darken things up a bit. Black moldings can be a good compromise. The subject of black moldings has come up before on AT, but it's actually surprisingly difficult to find good photos of them. So we were thrilled to stumble on this photo in the recent Living Etc. magazine. We've actually done this ourselves, a few years ago, and we were pleased with the results. Even in our tiny one-bedroom, the black moldings added depth and visual interest to the space. The home pictured here is located in central Marseilles and is a renovated printing factory.

Whoa. Talk to me about those orange pendant lamps! They would be perfect for a current project...where can we buy them??

The Urban Oasis photo is beautiful. The black-white -red combination is perfect!
Here are some more beautiful designed spaces with the color black:

I think that the bedroom designed by Tracy Murdock is stunning.

There is a great example of black trim in Thomas Paul's apartment that appeared in Domino in 2006: http://thomaspaul.com/PRESS/press5.html.

I think that dark walls can open a space up a bit. While sitting in a darkly painted room, it creates a sense of mystery about where exactly the corners of the room end.

Wow, I really like that black trim. Will have to think about that for my next painting project.

Funny how warm and inviting a space can be even if it is mostly black and white. It's all in the splashes of color. I especially like the way that wooden chair stands out even though it's not a bold or sharply contrasting color (like the red lanterns are, though they are interesting in a different way!).
