Recycline's New Environmentally Friendly Products

2005_8_3_preserve-2.jpgGreen Tip. We just recieved an email from Recycline about their new line of Preserve Plateware and Cutlery, which is made from 100% recycled plastic, including recycled yogurt cups. It's yet another way Recycline has figured out how to take a disposable niche and turn it into a cradle to cradle resource.

Just so you know, Recycline is a remarkable company that we first heard about when they launched their Preserve Toothbrush program, which sends to you and reclaims from you a new toothbrush every three months. Made entirely from Stonyfield Farm yogurt containers, we have used these brushes (and recycled them) for almost three years.

Recycline now does a lot more:

"Made entirely from Stonyfield Farm yogurt containers"

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.

It's Very Good Green since yogurt containers don't go through regular recycling.

I've used the Preserve Toothbrush, and I wasn't very happy with it. The bristles were too firm and too upright. I guess since I usually use the $3 or so "modern bristle design" brushes I just wasn't happy with the $1 simple bristle style brush.

yogurt container expert reporting for duty . . .

they're the wrong type of plastic - as indicated by the number in the arrow circle printed on the container.

so much yogurt is consumed in Park Slope, Brooklyn that we recycle the containers (well, lots of people do. I store homemade cold soups in all of mine ; )) by gathering them several times a month outside the Co.op and sending them back to Stonyfield. Now I know they are actually becoming toothbrushes. Which apparently are also sold at the Co.op.

Ahh, the circle of life.

one more comment about yogurt container recycling...here in seattle they DO recycle yogurt containers. I believe (but not 100% sure) that it's up to each area to decide what the will and will not recycle based on what they're equipped to handle.

you should check with your local recycling service to find out the answer for where you live.
