Holly, did you have any trouble convincing Dudley to keep that on? I can't even keep a collar on my house cats, so I'm fairly amazed!

Aww, he has a diaper so he won't wet his lovely little bed. What a cute little guy. Did it take him long to get used to his diaper? My dog would chew his off in about 30 seconds.

I like seeing what people do with wine boxes they find. They just seem too useful to pass up. Did he know it was his bed right away, or did you have to coax him to use it?

Also, I am constantly amazed by the instant fun-making properties of rickrack. If I ever break my leg or arm and have to wear a cast, I think I'll glue rickrack to it. Instant cuteness!

If this were a cat, there'd be five thousand comments by now.

What gives? Give it up for Doodles!!

Hi Doodles! What a cutie. I love DIY as I also made my dog's bed myself. It's hard to beat $3!

Dudley already loved a white wine-box bed at my place where he spends most days and some nights. I don't remember having to coax him into it. He just loves it.

So it was a natural thought last fall-- make him one for HIS place as a Christmas gift. Then it was just a matter of finding a clean wine box and thinking of a color scheme that would please Dude's mom. (Black and red was settled upon.)

He readily climbed into the black bed at my house, where I took the pic. Once it went home to his house his mother reported that he was shunning the new bed at first. But then over time he began to sleep in it.

As to the diaper--- I had a dog (Quincy) who died at 19 (yes, 19!) a couple of years ago. In his dotage, he became incontinent and would just create puddles willy nilly, poor old thing. Couldn't help himself. I quickly came up with the diaper set up, easy with a male dog. It's just a fabric belt with a velcro closing and pads I get at the pharmacy. Totally solved my problem with Quincy.

So when I realized that I wasn't going to retrain Dudley (who has always been very casual about how close he might be to the paper) I had one of those "duh!" moments and I made a diaper for him. Does he like it? Probably not. Does he accept it? Yes. Does it work? Absolutely. It's great to watch him, knowing he's not doing any damage.

The only negative is having to buy incontinence pads. ;-)

Holly,

Nice bed and nice idea but the bed really is too small for Dudley. His legs shouldn't be sprawling off the sides.

Hey Holly - If you are near 1st & 85th - the drugstore on the SW corner has really cheap pee pads. Much less expensive than the doggie ones at Petco and the name-brand ones at Duane Reade.

It is about $3 for a pack of 10.

Thanks for the tip, Marie! Good to know. I'll check it out.

And to Edina Monsoon---- Actually, Dudley can easily curl up in the box and it contains him very nicely. I am certain that if it were uncomfortable, he wouldn't spend a second in it since he is a committed hedonist, as are most if not all dogs.

So thanks. And give my regards to Patsy and Saffron, Darling!
