It's a cat's world in NYC! As we head into the final smackdown for Pet Decor Month, your submissions and your votes say that your cats drive you to more nutty creative solutions than your dogs, geckos, fish and snakes (not to mention gerbils). We will definitely be running this contest again next year and see if we can unseat the cat lovers out there.
This is it! Vote for one below who shows the most creativity and DIY practicality. Every computer gets one vote until Thursday at 3pm. All three will share prizes from Zoomies in the West Village. The prizes are listed here and will be tailored to cat winners.
• Russell's Cat Stairs 3: Dumbo, Brooklyn
• Willy and MC's KittyLoft: Brooklyn, NY
• Niko and Macy's Shoji Litter Box: Park Slope, Brooklyn

And it seems the most creative solutions come from Brooklyn!
Love the brilliantly simple design of the cat stairs and how seamlessly it integrates with the rest of the apartment.
Yuck! I hate cats and don't like the idea of providing them with creature comforts.
Posted once before, but it's still cracking me up.

I thought you were posting this one-

"Russell's Cat Stairs" look more like a cat loft, and "Willy and MC's KittyLoft" are made of yellow stairs. Also, the title for "Cat Stairs" sits above the photo of the yellow stairs (which is the "loft" not the "stairs"). I wonder if many people mis-voted (ready to examine the butterfly ballots, anyone?).
I personally voted for "Russell's Cat Stairs" and meant to, but it was a close call between that and "Willy and MC's KittyLoft". I personally would have voted for the "Patricia's Climbing Pole" hands-down, if it had made it to this round. I still cannot figure out how that litter box made the cut. If Patricia's Pole had had a platform at the top, I think it would have made it into the finals.
What I really like about the yellow stairs/loft (they are more like stairs than the shelves) and the litter box is that they make a decorative statement with home-made materials. The 3 shelves/steps are great in their uncommon usage, but they look like regular shelves bought right out of a catalog. They more downplayed within the décor of the apartment and don't really make as much of a statement. The yellow stairs/loft and the litter box have an original decorative approach - and Chris (NYC), I agree, the climbing pole did have that same innovative feeling. I like the thought that these people actually did some serious blue printing and sawing before getting to the building.
All in all, it was great to see people making stuff, cool stuff at that, for their pets. Way to go!
Gosh how I terribly miss having a cat. My wife is severely allergic. She's such a good sport, and loves animals. She went on medication just so we could keep my cat for the first few year we were married, and then some close friends adopted him, so we have occasional "visitation". We have a small dog, who is as warm-hearted as can be, but I really miss my cat. I saw Patricia's Climbing Pole and thought of how much my cat would have loved it.
The cat stairs seemed to sterile for me, being a former brooklynite I loved the kitty loft since it seemed to stand out and make a statement "This is for my cats". It also had that old kind of look, overall it seems very fitting for some good tough Brooklyn Cats and for the apt. You go kitties. The orange cat posing on the stairs is also very cute.
@Milu & @BGonzalez:
See, the fact that the cat stairs are unobtrusive is exactly why I voted them. Far too much of the cat furniture out there already makes a statement. Unfortunately, that statement is usually "I allow the fact that I have a cat to completely dominate the aesthetics of my home."
My parents have a large cat tree made from an actual tree trunk in the middle of their conservatively classy living room that I think looks ridiculous. I'm glad that the cat stairs are able to provide cats with an opportunity to go vertical without trying to be the Big Feature of the room.
This whole contest has me feeling like there's something wrong with me for hating cats...and I know all you cat people are going to say there is. I voted for the cat stairs because I can almost forget there's a cat involved they're so well integrated.
