Aqua Design Amano

After posting on modern home aquariums last week, AT readers James C. and NathanSE tipped us off to Aqua Design Amano, a Japanese artist whose medium is planted fish tanks. The gallery of his work shows such stunning composition of marine life that we had to post it here.

This gallery served as a reminder to us that the home can be embellished in any variety of ways. Given time thoughtfulness, and care, choose your medium and make it beautiful! (thanks, James C. and NathanSE!)

Wow, these are stunning. I really wish Todd had done something like this with his room in Design Star's final challenge.

I think Todd should go back to landscaping. I sure would not want him to do an interior for me. What a disappointment. Thankfully, Kim was spectacular in her design.

Yeah, unfortunately Todd's suite looked like a cheap seafood restaurant.

Actually, I'm suprised the finale wasnt mentioned on the site yet.

todd's work seems cliche and unimaginative, plus it always comes off as being very cheap. i don't understand how he made it to the final two. he should stick to surfing. dude.

To get back on subject:

These aquariums (do I dare call them such) are stunning. I had a marine aquarium for quite a while, but if I get back into the hobby, I will go freshwater and use Amano's designs as, um, inspiration. OK, I'll probably blatantly copy one of those designs.

I bought my Amano setup in San Francisco at a place called Aqua Forest Aquarium (http://www.adana-usa.com/). As far as I am aware, there is no place in NY to get any Amano gear. I used to have to go to Japan or Germany to get items so even though you have to order online, it is still way more convenient. In fact, the aquarium resources in NY in general seem quite poor. So I end up getting almost everything by mail.

I have a 90 gal planted aquarium with an aquamedic light, about 450W light, a co2 injection system, and an Eheim wet/dry filter. I will post some details and images on my website - arinave.com if anyone wants more details.
