Woof! Petfinder.com is a great way to find a pet who really needs a home. We believe you shouldn't even think of going to pet stores or breeders without considering this option first. Every day during Pet Month, we'll be featuring some of our favorite furry friends from Petfinder.com.
Today is Rico's day ing the spotlight. Rico is a Wirehaired Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Westie mix. "Although just a year old, Rico roamed the streets of Quito, Ecuador looking for someone who would offer him food and a safe place he can call home. Fortunately for him, a volunteer of Amigo Fiel in Ecuador saw him one night laying near a busy road, as if he had intentionally positioned himself there to be seen and rescued. Rico weighs 16 lbs, is neutered and has been given a clean bill of health. He remains in Ecuador and waits anxiously for a plane ticket to New York or a nearby State. The adoption fee is $285, plus the cost of the travel crate.
To adopt Rico, please submit an on-line adoption application available at available at www.strayfromtheheart.org.

Oh, he is quite the cutie! I would certainly take him home, if I had the space!
Wow, what a beautiful pooch.
That website is great - and they have really great animals - check it out if you need a pet! :)
Although Rico is indeed cute, isn't it SLIGHTLY ridiculous to ship a dog from Ecuador to the US when there are so many pets in US shelters already?
me, a homless dog is a homeless dog no matter where they are. if someone has the heart and home for rico in toronto or miami it doesn't matter as long as he is rescued.
He's very cute; notice how he has his paw up in the "begging" position! I have a pooch and can't take on another, but I sure hope someone kind will offer to share their home with him. His pedigree mix that should make a good pet.
I love that Pet Month came right when my man and I trying to adopt. Wouldn't it be fitting if AT brings us all together?
BTW-
Stray From The Heart (www.strayfromtheheart.org), the organization that has posted the listing also has an excellent "foster" program that ANY first time dog owner should look into.
It's like taking a dog for a test drive to make sure A) You can handle it and B) You and the dog are a match.
Then again, just being a Foster home has it's own rewards too!

Petfinder.com is an excellent resource, thank you for showcasing it. Though it's heartbreaking to type in your zip code and see just how many animals in your area need homes, it's great to be able to access them all at one time. It's also amazing how a photo can grab your attention and, stay in your mind and nag at you until you follow up on it. Definitely worth checking out.
