Coil Candle on Sale at Gaiam

0718_gaiam.jpg

We loved this coil candle when we first spotted it at Gaiam. But now, it's on sale at the Gaiam outlet at a price that's tough to pass up...

The candle was originally $48, but is now $30. Get an 80-hour refill for it for just $15, marked down from $28. We love the old-world, mechanical appearance of this apparatus. The beeswax candle is shaped in a long coil that is simply used up as the candle burns. See more at Gaiam.

i feel ahead of the curve on this one... yay!

but be warned... it doesn't just get used up as the candle burns... you have to feed the wax up through the clamp. it burns an inch in about 60-80 minutes. it self-extinguishes when it gets down to th clamp piece. so many people think it keeps sprialing up on its own like magic...

This might make me buy a candle. I'm not a candle person, but I love this.

A friend "gifted" me one a year ago, it used to be his. The thing looks cool but it's a pain to have to keep feeding it in, especially if it's cold and the candle is stiff. So I "gifted" it to another friend.

They used to make candles that actually spiraled down way back when (like 1800's way back) and parents would burn the candle at certain lengths and when it went out thats when the suitors would have to leave...or something like that. I remember we went back east one year and visited some sort of historical place and there was a candle like that. My parents bought one but thankfully never used it lol.

Obviously its not in a coil design but the comments about spiraling and feeding it in made me think of that.
