Colorful Japanese Masking Tape Arrives Stateside

This colorful Japanese masking tape has been causing a huge uproar in the blogosphere. It has been a little difficult to find... For a short while, the tape could be found via Design Within Reach's Tools for Living, but that was discontinued online. Now there is a source!

There are so many things one might do with this beautiful tape. You could make your own masking tape rug, cover a window or decorate a wall. Or you could just use it to dress up a brown paper package.

Find the tape online at Happy Tape. Each roll is sold for $5, and groups of colors are sold in sets. For more ideas on using the colorful tape, check out the Happy Tape blog.

Fabulous! As a person unable to create an attractive bow with standard ribbon, I love the idea of using these to decorate gifts. I usually use old paper bags as wrapping paper, and these would spiff it up nicely.

hmmm, this tape looks just like what is often used in chemistry/biochemistry laboratories for color-coded labelling and such. unfortunately, lab supply shops don't typically sell to "normal" people... (I think)

There are also a variety of colored masking tape available at ssww.com

I'm not sure if they are the same stuff, but you can get a pack of 33 rolls of eleven different colors for only $11.00

I saw them in the recent issue of Readymade, maybe others have seen them too

these mt japanese masking tapes are just fab.

although fairly similar to tape used in labs the texture is much different.

these tapes are made of washi and are not as sticky as usual masking tape.

thank you pinrat kindly for mentioning my etsy shop washimatta. appreciated :)

please visit my website www.washimatta.wordpress.com

thank you

I just purchased some of this from ginko in yellow. I used a few rolls to cover the mini-lampshades on my chandelier b/c of the burn marks that were on them when I moved in. I'm pleased with the results! Very lovely stuff!

Hmm, I did some researching. I can read a little bit of Japanese, so I went to the mt website. These tapes are totally over-priced in the US! A set of 3 cost about $5 in Japan, but people are selling them for about $20 I love them, but I refuse to pay that much for these tapes.
