Dear AT,
I had never considered my Bouganvillea Pink Hallway 'Barbie Vomit Pink' until I read the term on this website.
Now, struck with pregnancy nesting hormones and the stark revelation that my home might soon contain barbies, I want to up my sophistication factor.
Luckily, other than the pink which I would like to keep, I have a blank slate of white and pine.
The apartment is a well-lit 1000 square feet in southern Spain so I am not afraid of adding something dark and daring.
The only two elements I can't change are the soft-beigy orange sofa and the tile floor which is the same throughout...

I would paint the pine doors in the pink hallway with a high-gloss white or other light color.

I love the pink walls, and I agree with white high gloss. That would look incredible.

In southern Spain, bright colors work beautifully because of the light. It doesn't look Barbie vomit pink at all.

how about painting the walls white and doors pink? is that daring enough for you? I think it would look amazing! Hot pink doors. You can always put up black frames with b/w pics as well.
Can the wall that the orange couch is on be a feature wall? Perhaps a turqoiuse blue or a grey blue color? I love certain shades of blue with orange. I think they look exciting together.

As you mentioned, I think some nice artwork would really help the place "grow up." If you choose to paint the doors and trim white then I think you could get away with a more daring art choice in the hallway, otherwise I think black and white would look nice. Also, the space above your sofa looks so lonely! A collection of photos salon-style would be a great way to show off some smaller pieces.

I'd never thought about the color of barbie's puke... my guess is that it'd be a tie-dye mixture of neon green, glittery purple and that pink. Freaky.

I love the pink, too! I definitely agree on painting the doors white, not necessarily gloss though.
Also, paint the coffee table. White would be too boring, and you certainly get enough light to pull off having more dark objects, so maybe dark dark brown, or black. The sofa could have a retro-mod look about it, paired with the right objects, but the white chair is a tough one.
About colors: Kevin McCloud has written a GREAT book about colors, and color schemes, also taking into account the different kinds of daylight people have in different parts of the world. I really recommend it!

I love the pink, and the doors read as orange to me - which I thing is a super-happy hip color combo. Mix with some ocean-blue walls in the living room and toss some orange, pink and darker blue (not navy) accents in that room along with some brass lamps and pieces of Rimini-Blu Bitossi pottery from Italy http://www.flavia.it/ and you'll have a fun/happy/trippy room!

I LOVE the pink. What is the name of the colour???? Thanks!

I like the pink as well. I'd say bring some of that color (or more color, anyway) into the living room.

Hi Maxwell,
I'm new to the site and just saw your post. I work with La-Z-Boy and they have this great system called âScreen Testâ in their Furniture Galleries stores. It allows you to see any fabric on any furniture frame to match your beigy-orange furniture. The stores also offer free in-home design consultants â you can find a local store on our dealer locater . Best of luck on your makeover!
