Richard Neutra: House Numbers

2005_19_numbers.jpgThere is something about these house numbers, availaible at Design Within Reach that we just swoon over ($68.00 each).

The stainless steel numbers are based on the iconic lettering that Richard Neutra specified for use on his mid-century buildings. Precision crafted by a 50-year-old metal fabrication shop in collaboration with Neutra’s son, Dion, they are designed to float slightly above the wall surface and cast subtle shadows.

If God is in the details, you might want to bow down to these beauties. AH

DWR only sells the (more ex$pensive) hollow core stainless in one size... CustomHouseNumbers sells both the stainless and (cheaper) waterjet-cut aluminum in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. Then there's this place (http://buysignletters.com) which sells letters/numbers in a variety of materials and finishes - their face "Ribbon" is closest to the Neutra look. However, nothing really tops the beauty of the Neutra face - much props to House Industries (http://houseind.com) for their work bringing this face to life.

we bought house numbers from http://www.customhousenumbers.com/ and they were great, especially since you get to pick your font! when we sold our house, i was tempted to take the numbers back.

Funny coincidence: I ran across another mention for Custom House Numbers last week:

... and there are a few interesting possibilities here, too.

I'd put in a vote for the good folks at www.westonletters.com. Not only are they available in the font of your choice, but they come with an almost idiot-proof template suitable for even masonry installations, etc. And their customer service is top-notch. You can get EXACTLY what you want for around 100 bucks.

Just to let you know, you can send an eps or ai vector file or a .ttf font file to www.buysignletters.com and they will cut any font in any flat cut metal or acrylic material, they also provide the idiot-proof template. What I like about this company is they have production tracking as well as shipping tracking so you where your order is at anytime.

Hey guys... thanks for posting your recommendations for other locations. I saw the Neutra numbers in DWR but was curious to know if they also made letters so I can use them in a corporate environment. Thanks!
