Mounted on the ceiling, this little bugger will eventually get you out of bed. The Sfera Retracting Alarm Clock is an innocent-enough-looking white sphere that hangs above your bed. But when the "alarm" goes off, well, then it's a different story...
Sfera Retracting Alarm Clock
When the alarm goes off, the Sfera lowers to hover just above your head and it begins to glow. To active the "sleep" button, you hit it and it retracts a bit toward the ceiling. This continues to happen until it retracts so high that when it goes off, you must stand up to reach it. Then you're up. We don't have that difficult a time getting out of bed, but if you do, the Sfera design is less offensive than the rolling and flying varieties out there.

love this....once again not available for purchase, only as a prototype! now all other alarm clocks just won't do. love the idea of no having to waste precious bedside table space on the alarm.

Mounting anything on the ceiling in NYC apts. is a bitch and usually requires a professional. So why on earth would someone even consider mounting an ALARM CLOCK on the ceiling. HAHAHAHAHA.

is there a maximum ceiling height on this thing?
i know many of us have vaulted ceilings...wondering if the designers accounted for that...

Mine's across the room, anyway. I have to get up to turn it off. I've got both alarms set on it (it's a pretty standard radio/alarm clock), 7 minutes apart. I get up to turn the first one off, then crawl back into bed with the light on and the (other) radio on and the cats bothering me. It's much easier, then, to really get up by the time the second alarm goes off.

I love the idea, but they'd better come up with a version that makes sound. Waking up to a glow? Not me. They could put a 500w halogen in that thing and I still wouldn't wake up unless it was close enough that I felt the heat.
