apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Silverstone White Globe

12-19-globe2.jpgGives even the cheapest apartment a sense of permanence.

We stumbled upon this beautiful globe yesterday at Ochre and bought one as a gift. The Silverstone Globe is unusual in that it is printed all in white and grey with clear black print. We'd never seen one before. Imported from England (where they sell much more cheaply), the one we purchased had just come back from a Real Simple photo shoot.

That looks really cool. But where would one keep a globe?

Anywhere! It's a constant reminder to keep up your geography. I've been wanting a globe so bad (!) lately. It's not easy to find one that isn't super cheap or way too expensive. This one is pretty neat AND lands right about in the middle.

I received a globe as a Christmas present back when I was small enough to just fit in the globe box - it had circle cutouts on all four sides, perfect for sticking out legs and arms. Anyway I still have it and it is really pretty neat to see all the geopolitical changes in my lifetime. It is currently on top of a bookcase, but has also lived on a console table, on a dresser, and a wall shelf.

Hmmm. I've been wondering whatto do with a couple of vintage globes that I no longer love as much as I once did. This black and white one is lovely.

I have a globe that I bought on purpose; partly because I had this pedestal that I wanted it for, because I knew that there existed a globe with Atlas holding it up, and I googled it, and found it and the colors work great in my space.

This white one looks like it would go really well with the more deliberately modern interiors than mine.
