Space Savers: Flatback & Corner Christmas Trees

12-5-corner-tree-1.jpg

Maybe you don't have the space for a full tree? Online and catalog retailer Grandin Road offers two good options for space-saving (but still full-height) artificial Christmas trees — a corner tree and a half tree...

Pre-lit with 350 white lights, the Artificial Corner Tree is 7 1/2' tall and $259 from Grandin Road (pictured above).

Also 7 1/2' tall (but pre-lit with 600 lights) the Frasier Fir Flat Back Christmas Tree is on sale for $249 (originally $399) from Grandin Road.

If you were in the market for an artificial tree, would you buy a fraction of a tree to save space?

Ingenious!

While this is not for me, I think it is a wonderful idea and has the likelihood of being safer (esp. in a household with small children and curious pets) than a 'traditional' whole tree if it can be anchored to a wall to prevent it from toppling over.

now if it only folded down into a small package that i could store under my bed, then it would be perfect for my small space. sigh.

When we'd go shopping for a tree, my Dad would always make a beeline for the discounted trees with imperfections. He'd score a tree with a big ugly area and snap it up for half price. Then he'd bring it home, saw off a few limbs and place it snug against the wall saving both space and cash without skimping on the beauty of the tree. To this day I still think christmas trees look better against the wall.

There goes the idea for my invention!

does anyone know if it does have an anchor for the wall? After all the decorations were on it would be pretty out of balance...

It is a great idea, but it looks a little odd to me in the pictures showing it in a room

love the idea. Or you could cut the limbs off of a regular tree that only costs a fraction of the price.

Brilliant idea!

Our tree in the corner partially obstructs the passageway into the kitchen. I won't purchase this new one; but it did give me the notion to remove some of the branches so I can move our current tree further back into the corner.

Regards.

If you have an artificial tree to which you attach the branches for use and detach them for storage, there's no reason why you couldn't do exactly this kind of thing.

Common sense tells me this is a great idea, but I can't make myself like these trees.

Too bad the space issues that make me want to buy one of these trees also prevent me from having a place to store it...

Funny!!

I think they are clever, and I might spring for one if I needed to worry. (They probably DO fold for storage, by the way -- most fake trees do. Then you could put it in it's box under a bed, maybe??)

This year we are still unpacking from moving, so if I can clear the way, we will use our table-top 4' fake tree again. Maybe next year, when we are settled, I'll get a tall one for in front of the sliders to the deck... just barely enough room if it's skinny.

a bit pricey, but a fantastic idea! This is would be the only full-size tree that would fit in my living room!

Suthernbell, your Dad is my hero.

I love the idea of fractional trees ... created, not purchased.

The idea is excellent. The reality of it is stupid looking.Trees aren't supposed to be flush with the wall. People will always find expensive ways to do something cheap.

This...is not new. I saw trees like this for sale almost ten years ago. I'm honestly surprised by the number of people who haven't already heard of this.

i think its cool, but i'd prefer 1/2 the price of a regular tree too.

I like the idea a lot, and have no problem with the way they look. It's the pre-wrapped lights that make me wonder how they're stored. But if they are delivered in a box, presumably they can go back into the box for storage. I wish they did have info about anchoring them, though. As someone previously mentioned, ornaments may overbalance them.

This depresses me.

But, I did just see similar trees on sale at JCPenney.com.

I wonder if they will be on sale after Christmas. I bought my fake tree in January at 75% off. When I brought it home I assembled it and plugged it in just to make sure it worked and put it away for this Christmas.

:o)

This is pretty good actually. I looked at it a while and think it's fine. People get so much into having to get a tree, like I've said, I sometimes feel like having one, but I do not need it every year and don't see the fits people have to try to get something to fill the Christmas emptiness they'd feel without a tree. This isn't flat, cheap, green, or different. Well except for the phantom 3/4 tree - this is like a ghost of a tree coming or going through the wall and that's cool.

You know what else I'd like to see is the talking pine tree from Bugaboo Creek steakhouse. Aaaaiieee!

On the years when we get the artificial tree out instead of buying a real one I always place it against the wall and just don't install the brances at the back - it works a treat - and the decorations are not at all heavy - there is no problem with balance at all

Hey, check out this modern christmas tree. There is a very nice corner upside-down tree. Although I've bought another artificial tree this year, corner one tree looks good too.
