Dimitris Garden Center

Bronx, NY 10451

6-13--dimitris-(1).jpgPeople swear by Dimitris. Aside from being the largest garden center in NYC, it should go without saying that it's a great thing to have a nursery, meaning the kind where you can buy a shrub or a tree as well as a little pot of pansies, smack dab in the middle of the city.

6-13- dimitris.jpgThough some may argue that Dimitris isn't exactly "smack dab in the middle," it's quite accessible by transportation, and easy to hop in a cab with your loot and head home, no matter where you live. If you live on the East side, this is a no-brainer.

The staff at Dimitris is knowledgeable, and although the selection isn't as hip or trendy as places like Chelsea Gardens, the prices tend to be a tad lower. If you're looking for something specific, definitely give them a call before making the trip.

Dimitri's may not be cheap, but you will not get a better selection at one shop. Also, they are doing something no one else is doing in Manhattan - preserving land and running a business the old fashioned way. I was just up there and noticed a lot of changes. In fact, they had a huge sale today!

Dimitris Garden Center has sold out...to the highest bidder I'm sure.
The city of NY finally sold them the land and now they moved the business to the Bronx and "some others" own the property; I'm sure we can expect a co-op building any second...
