Look!: The Bathroom in the Kalkin House

0728_kalkin.jpg

We've posted the Kalkin House, designed by architect Adam Kalkin, before. But a visitor on Flickr has posted a shot of a shower in the house...

The shower has been repurposed as a perfect home for plants. The large window and easy supply of "rainshowers" makes a happy spot for these houseplants to grow. (Via littlebean's Flickr photostream.)

Caution tape was the first thing I noticed, too.

On the other hand, that would be an especially BAD place to trip, what with that huge glass panel right there....

am I missing something about the enormous full-length window where you are intended to be fully nude?

Wow. Mr. Kalkin must cater to a lot of exhibitionists.

I can just picture the neighbor kid with his lawnmower, rolling by and getting an eyeful!

No wonder it's used for plants now, and not showers, huh?

It looks like peepers wouldn't really be a problem since it seems that house is on a huge property. Though, I'd probably put some window film on that huge picture window!

I especially like the bench conveniently located for viewing pleasure.

Now I didn't even notice the caution tape until it was pointed out.

What? What is this? It's just weird. Looks like a badly planned idea and an expensive implementation. What the heck is up with the caution tape? That was the second thing I saw.

I'm pretty sure this photo is from the Kalkin house at Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT. They use it as a display area for installation art, and when I was there a few weeks ago it was featuring an exhibit of indoor container gardening. So, I imagine the caution tape is to keep museum visitors out of the shower!
